I have some questions.

1. What if you don't have a router? Is the port number still important?
2. Where do i find my port number? and does the port number effect the download time at all. When I download something it takes fucking forever to start up. I have about 4.GIGS of unity btw.

Thirdly, what should be my 'bandwith limit' be set at? My internet connection is at least 100.Mbps. So i have it set at 1000. Good or what?

I google-fu'ed furiously about ports too. No luck really. Oh, by the way - I never end up downloading anything from PD. The progress barely moves. Pisses me off, like beyond. So my main question is actually "WHY DONT MY DOWNLOADS START RIGHT AWAY".

Port number is pretty important, depending on if you have a firewall up. I saw from the pics that you're downloading and uploading at a speed that's indicative of an open port, so your port number is fine.

As far as I know, what your port number is doesn't determine anything to do with download time. it's just the speed you send and receive data.

Your bandwidth limit should be set to whatever you feel like downloading or uploading at. If you never reach that limit you can lower it.

From what I understand forty gigs of unity is the minimum, and they say you need at least twenty gigs if you want any efficiency for your downloads. Otherwise just keep it running and you will eventually download, depending on how common the file is.

Like someone earlier posted before, Perfect Dark is still pretty new and still in testing.

I'm a bit used to amule, so I'm a bit worried about what I can do.

1. Can I freely delete files in my downloads folder? Does this hurt the network or does nothing from there get uploaded? I'm worried about share ratio and upsetting leechers
2. Can I extract things inside my downloads folder? I.e. by putting things in there I'm not making a mess of the network with lots of useless files?

1) Yes, because a copy of the downloaded file is already in your unity (cache). Same for Share.

2) Yes, because, as per 1), nothing in the download folder is shared. In these apps, the download folder is private. Also, on Perfect Dark, each file that you would like to release must be UPLOADED BY HAND (unlike Share that seeds everything that you have in your public folders). The only way to flood PD network with junk is... uploading the junk by hand ;) Not useful for spammers, so it's a nice feature.

Even though I sort my results by time, frequently things are added as if older, making it really hard to keep track of new releases. Is there a way to fix this?

I've added some files in UPLOAD, and I'd like to know if this will be counted on unity or not... thank you!

If you upload any files, they are first transferred to your unity before being uploaded to the network. The only way uploading files won't increase your unity is if the file is already in your unity.

Is it possible to simply move the unity folder to another partition?
I bought a new HDD since I ran out of space and want to migrate my Share/Perfectdark caches and download folders there.

As far as I know there is no way to get more results.
However, you can work around that using the advanced search.
Most useful is setting the filesize. In fact you can kind of cheat and get as many results as you want. All you have to do is create advanced searches with different file size ranges. Although that's probably unnecessary since depending on what you're looking for you'll know how big it is and can just set generous lower and/or upper limits.
Or you can use the ~ (NOT) operator in your searches. For example if you're looking for an iso, you can add ~mp3 ~avi and so on and those results won't be shown. I haven't used this much yet since just setting a 50mb or so lower limit (depending on what I'm looking for) is enough to weed out enough unwanted results.

Seems that the files are corrupt... can you see the file size on the videos? Is there enough free Disk Space on your HD? Did you check the Share Log?

can someone explain exactly wut the cash is. i mean i know i need it to download and upload right? but mines just getting huge, like 30 gigs, and wuts the difference on the status tab where if u hide cash it's grey but show cash shows it almost all blue but the number is still like 0/3000

cache grows until you complete files. they will then be deleted, or, can be deleted manually - use ctrl-d rather than menu option as it's broken

Is there some way to add multiple downloads simulataneously? I've currently been adding things I find at 2ch's download BBS one by one via the Trigger window and it's annoying...

I've used Share a few times and successfully downloaded a few files, but sometimes downloads with lots of "cache amount" in remote doesn't download at all? Can anyone suggest some things I should check?

I'm using TCP and my port forward checks out

While running perfect dark for a whole night, connected properly with fonts working and all that, only ~16 MB of unity were stored up, and almost no search results had appeared, even though I know there should've been lots.

I did install MS PGothic in the .wine folder, but Winny isn't Unicode, so nothing displays right anyway.

Give some time to Perfect Dark, or feed it with more nodes, and some juicy files. A quick way to get the needed 2GB for unity is to toss it any file that you've downloaded with Share. Since both networks will eventually have the same files, you're helping the network to grow (and cheating a bit for enlarge your unity ;)

Otherwise PD will take ages to fill the unity (even on Windows!). BTW: for some odd reason, after upgrading to Wine 0.9.52 from 0.9.47, PD's UI no longer has antialiased fonts (at least for MS PGothic items)

I've pushed over 2 TB through Perfect Dark now and my Unity File hasn't grown over 222mb. This program sucks

Try setting better bandwith at options. For my 2Mbit I had to select like 20Mbit to get it working.

I mostly use Share inside VirtualBox with a stripped down Windows 2003.
I also have PD installed which runs perfectly fine with wine, but after playing around with it initially I haven't used it much at all.
As for Winny... Is it even worth it anymore? You'd think it's pretty much dead by now.

Slackware 12.1, wine installed with no extra font. I think I use the Linux default fonts. No patches, no extra packages, (it seems) it displays Japanese words in wine. I use this "LC_ALL="ja_JP.eucjp" wine ...exe thing to running PF.

What exactly can you find on PD? I tried looking for some music and also PV and I got really shitty results even after waiting quite some time.
Sure, if you search for touhou or comiket stuff, you'll get a few results, but is that it? Am I doing something wrong? Unity size is currently 16GB, port open, etc.
I've used Winny and Share before and their network still seems bigger even though it also seems to have worsened.

PV = Promotional video (music videos)

In this case, PV is the correct keyword.

Also remember that PD still has few files, compared with Share and other networks. Keep running PD as long as you can, this is the only advice that i can give for now.

Anyway, for rare/hard-to-find stuff, PD is not good (in fact, no P2P app is good for such stuff).

I do the following when searching for rare stuff:
-Day 1: run Share
-Day 2: run Share, then PD
-Day 3: run PD
-Day 4: run another P2P
-Day 5: run another P2P, then back to Share, then...
...
-Day (n+1): PROFIT!

It's nasty, and it's a old and known trick, but it can do wonders sometimes. Who said that being a "file hunter" was a easy job?

In the "download" view, sometimes files are displayed on a black background, sometimes files have a red background. What does this mean?

Red highiligted stuff means updated metadata (for files: scores, comments, extended file information), and new posts (for boards). You can view such stuff on the embedded browser (for files: right-click->View, then go to "View" tab)

HINT: To view all scores for a file, click "View XML"... and you will get all the metadata in a nice XML file ;) Same for boards.

Do you know whether PD developers are working on enabling some form of NAT Trasversal support? Basically when you're NATted and "online, open ports not confirmed" is the same as "offline", the client doesn't work anyway.

Hmm, for some reason, PD won't connect anymore.
I'm using V1.02 and have my pc directly connected.
No firewalls running.
