I'm having trouble uploading. I have a file I want to introduce to the network, so I put it in my designated upload folder. However, it doesn't appear when I do a search. Is there another step I have to do?

Thanks for hosting the forum, btw.

Did you let the file finish uploading? If you did, it's hash information is supposed to be stored locally, and should show up when searching.

4 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-07 22:33 ID:lsMO46xG [Del]

What exactly does the ID specify? Is it the user who originally uploaded the file to the network? Also why do some files have a ID and others don't?

ID is used for people who release stuff, so that you know that you're getting the real thing (there are a lot of fake files, as well as ones that are harmful to your computer on the network). Best example would be new versions of Share - always search for new versions with the author's ID, other files could contain garbage inside (viruses, trojans and so on).

7 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-08 17:32 ID:AcN0m/Za [Del]

ID is a tripcode, as 6 said. Share's type of ID is very nifty:

If you don't put a name, it works the same as Winny ID.
If you do put a name, it's more secure.

However, in the event that Share or Winny's ID system is cracked it won't be secure at all. I assume the author has countermeasures for this.

Ah I get it now...thanks a lot.

9 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-10 20:28 ID:lsMO46xG [Del]

oh...also, anyone know the link to the website that tells you if share/winny can access your ports?

10 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-10 20:59 ID:8SfiUdv5 [Del]

Sorry, I have never heard of any such site, and I'm not sure how that would work either since each user sets their own individual port for Winny/Share to use.

Hey all,
I'm having some trouble with port settings...when I try to connect, share disconnects within a minute claiming due to port error. Anyone have any advice?

12 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-13 21:17 ID:8SfiUdv5 [Del]

Open up whatever port you're using on your router/firewall?

I heard on IRC that there exist a share clone for Linux. Can someone please tell me more info and/or give me the download link for it ?

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of such a thing, and I'd take any such claims with a grain of salt.

That has to be a lie, because the Share project is closed source, and the protocols are not know. ファイル倉庫 would have noticed the users somehow if he had created such a version! The Share community and 2ch would also be all over it if that was correct!

17 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-19 20:21 ID:lY5QLF7W [Del]

I can't download stuff. Isn't it like double click on the file like in Winny? I also did right click and did add to download. Nothing happens. and why is my winny keep on disconnecting?

18 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-19 21:41 ID:VRsgVmDF [Del]

go to folders tab and set up a cache folder

19 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-19 22:13 ID:8SfiUdv5 [Del]

Make sure you aren't assigning the same port to both Share and Winny.
Read the tutorial on uguu.org

20 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-19 23:05 ID:lY5QLF7W [Del]

ok dl problem solved at least it show up on the dl list. but it still keeps on disconnecting. I just assigned random port that came into my mind like 4463. I don't have fire wall by the way. Oh and what's the use of cluster when you can just type stuff in search?

21 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-20 00:03 ID:VRsgVmDF [Del]

make sure the firewall that came with windows xp is off, and if you have a router than you most likely have a firewall. Nodes with the same clusters will get connected with each other more easily, thus looking for stuff from certain categories becomes easier.

22 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-20 00:49 ID:lY5QLF7W [Del]

I turned off firewall from local network settings. I don't have a router.

23 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-20 11:42 ID:VRsgVmDF [Del]

okay here is the deal, if you click on the nodes tab you will see that some nodes have Test or Check in the Type column, and they disappear very quickly, don't worry about that, read the FAQ again to find out what those are. Other nodes are Sleep, but there are 2 types of Sleep, the grey ones haven't been tested for connectivity yet, the white ones have been tested and can be connected to to donwload or upload at any time. Simply put for both Share and Winny if you see that there is some uploading/downloading going on (in the status bar) it means everything is ok, if both ul/dl stay at 0kb for a while then the programs are not connecting at all.

I have name set as a trigger, enabled and apply filters checked. I have b c set as filter, yet I still get name b c files. why is that? I have 175 filters.

25 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-21 20:43 ID:lsMO46xG [Del]

what does it mean to add a file to the database?

26 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-22 01:45 ID:82ccA5nz [Del]

ok the only thing that I didn't check is the system clock and everything else I checked. It still doesn't work. The thing is I do see very few white colored ones and I can't connect with them. Also, I won't worry too much if it keeps showing the nodes search. It just dissapears later and never come back on unless I press the connect button. The connect button automaticly gets turned off after 3minutes or so.

Most likely your router is blocking Share. For Share to work on my D-Link 524 I had to set rules in Virtual Server and Special Application. Should be similar for any other router I imagine.

What does it mean if there was an error when trying to convert a file? Is it possible to recover the file or will I have to re-download the whole thing?

30 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-07-29 10:11 ID:aWvBlo4y [Del]

OK I looked at the log and it says
"disconnected due to time check error"
Is it now specific enough to solve the problem?
I don't use router

31 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-01 19:51 ID:qkEEKbf8 [Del]

I also have that "disconnected due to time check error" in Version A82 and I did set it right in Bios, Windows and Linux. I tried setting my time-zone to japanese as well, but I still get that error.
I'd be glad if someone could help me.

Help! I can't get new search results! It seems that every query result comes from some cache or database stored locally. And even restarting doesn't help.

33 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-02 07:16 ID:OPzEYEGj [Del]

New results will come when you connect new nodes. Try pressing enter in the search box again once a while and new results should come up.

Now I have a question. :)
I want to download some files related to "X" However I don't want to download files with names like "X... Y...", "X...Z..." or "X... "rX"..." how should I create a rule for that? The rule I am using currently, a trigger with "X -y -z -"1y" -"1z"" doesn't really filter out the files I don't want.

34 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-02 21:50 ID:spJ5AbSe [Del]

I set a trigger for X, and filters for "X Y", "X Z", etc. It seems to work.

35 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-03 06:53 ID:OPzEYEGj [Del]

hi people, another question. suppose the file/cache is incomplete, is there a way to force convert the cache? everytime I ended up wit something like "data block corrupted"

36 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-03 08:09 ID:6w2Zy3FA [Del]

Happened to me very often recently, this is how i did: restart the computer and the modem and router. After that everything converts ok.

39 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-05 08:36 ID:yvxwTg2j [Del]

hi.
tell me about nodes please.
I've downloaded nodes.txt(for udp) from uguu.org
i've searched for アニメ and got only few results.
why? do I need to download more nodes to see more ppl?

40 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-05 22:15 ID:1CKc7+kk [Del]

nodes are ppl.

... but once you have an initial node list, it will find other nodes automatically. did you set any clusters?

41 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-05 22:49 ID:1CKc7+kk [Del]

Hi,
I 've tried to download some random small files for testing purpose.
In every case ,after I've got a chunk(or whatever is called) , the number listed under "order" ,indicating my position in a queue ,is vanished.
Take a look yourself:
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/4650/immagine9qr.jpg
I've left Share open for several hours but nothing happened and i've no idea in what position I'am supposed to be in a queue.
Does anyone can explain me what i'm doing of wrong ?

43 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-06 09:33 ID:0ZbCbeZz [Del]

according to the screenshot your computer couldn't find any node with all the chunks for the files, in the Status column you should see 1/2 and 1/7, which mean your node sees 1 chunk out of 2 for the first file and 1 out of 7 for the second one, and thus cannot completely finish the files. There is not much you can do other than wait patiently, this is how it works, just queue up a lot of stuff and there will be some that will finish quickly.

There is a plugin for that purpose, I think its name was ForcedFileConverter, or something along those lines. Though it will probably have problems converting corrupted files, it could work.

45 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-08 20:05 ID:ZYf0N/6g [Del]

It could convert the files for you, but they will be corrupt so i don't see any point in doing so. The only good use for it is to force convert some files with enough recovery records to actually fix the files if they were to be converted prematurely (keep in mind that it doesn't always work). And of course there is another problem with files with japanese characters in filenames, which will render the plugin useless.

46 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-08 23:19 ID:ZYf0N/6g [Del]

Oh and the solution could be very simple, as I have posted somewhere above - reset you router and modem and the problem will be gone, at least that what I did (been happening quite a lot lately, like every few days).

47 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-10 00:00 ID:sopazw/j [Del]

Hi to all,
i've noted there is an upper limit in the total node, that is after some time Node Count reaches a maximum of 10000 and doesn't go further.
It's normal? or i have to set something to rise this limit?
I'm using Share A82.
Thank you.

48 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-10 13:34 ID:ZYf0N/6g [Del]

that's right, there is a limit of 10000 nodes, which should be enough for everone.

Share need some upload bandwidth to communicate with other nodes, so don't go cap it at 1kb, keep it at around 10kb (I can max my down stream easily while capping upload at 10kb, YMMV though).
As for port for Share open the one you set up in Share options.

Any way that I can test to see whether I can download from share?

I have set up multiple triggers to download stuff, items were added to the download list.
Then I allowed Share to hang on for 3 days but nothing downloaded, not even 1k.
I can see I'm uploading at about 20k/s so port is probably working.

I have already set up the cache folder and download folder.

74 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-08-30 20:17 ID:z6J52TJe [Del]

try to search for something that is popular, download the result that is in orange color, also check if there is any piece of the file in your download list available (Download tab, Status column if you see 0/x then not 1 node has even 1 piece for that file).

You need to copy-paste the letter-number strings into the big box in the "Connect" dialog. Nothing else should go in there.
Once you are connected properly, you need to hit search, close the window, come back in a few minutes, refresh and see if you got anything. If you aren't connected, the search will only turn up results in your local database.

You can see the nodes only when you are searching/downloading/uploading, otherwise they are sleep nodes and can be seen if you turn "Show sleep nodes" option on (Nodes tab).

I have some basic questions.

First off, how do people have so many filters? You can only check 5. Or do they just go and uncheck and check some other ones all the time.

Also, What are triggers?

Lastly, where is the best place to find plugins?

83 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-09-09 06:04 ID:F02FFl5g [Del]

> What are triggers?

Triggers let you set keywords that when your client finds a match, cue's up/downloads the matches. It's best to not use a very general term for a Trigger, as this can cause your client to cue up a shitload of files you might not want.

> Lastly, where is the best place to find plugins?

On the Share network itself.

84 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-09-09 07:07 ID:Heaven [Del]

> First off, how do people have so many filters? You can only check 5.

That's not filters, those are your cluster keywords.
And yes, you check and uncheck them depending on what you think would benefit your present search(es) the most.

Nodes constantly appear and disappear in my node list under the whole check/test/search status. When I click 'show sleep nodes' I can see a ton of nodes with some highlighted white. So does this mean things are working properly?

Because my search results are constantly changing. And I also have a high ratio of 'connection errors' to 'connection attempts'.

95 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-09-22 20:18 ID:Y/W4uMav [Del]

If you can see white sleep nodes than everything is fine. Search results change depending on which node you're connected to at the moment.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

According to the uguu share guide, when 'order' is 1 the file should be ready to download. I see a few files in my download tab at order 1 with available file parts and none are downloading. Is that normal? I've set a quota on my cache folder.

A few days back I started having bandwidth problems while using Share. I allow 50KB/sec upload (I have a megabit upload total), and I used to download at 200-300KB/sec for a week straight - but now I'm only getting 40KB/sec even though my connection is getting saturated (all other machines behind my NAT router are only getting 1KB/sec while Share is running on one machine. Once I kill Share everyhting is fine. It's almost like I'm being DOS'ed. Has anyone seen this problem before?

98 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-09-24 10:09 ID:+Ghqxyxl [Del]

First time share user. Left it on for 2 days and only got about 50KB on 4 different files. Meanwhile the thing is constantly uploading and hogging more resources than a bit torrent client.

I guess I will have to depend on others to get Japanese files from now on. Maybe I will try winny later. Screw the RIAA for shutting down winmx.

i temporary move unfinish cache file out from cache folder(because I temporary want to stop download this file) , because of that when I start share it show me init failed on a file that the cache I move. I solve it by select option create cache (i uncheck the file on download section).

now I want to continue download this file. I try copy back the cache file into cache folder. but share prompt me init failed and delete the cache.

what should I do to resolve this?

114 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-10-08 11:30 ID:bTsd4W5g [Del]

If you want to stop downloading a file temporarily then there is a checkbox in front of every item in your download list, unchecking = Share will not download it.

117 Name: help 2005-10-08 14:09 ID:7COkd0l0 [Del]

not working but i found the solution.
ok here the trick (all here is my guess , so if wrong don't blame me).
there's 2 important file (hash.db & cache.idx). this file contain info to tell share the last hash file downloaded (my guess is to prevent corruption). every time it finish download a part,it update these files. so when u start share or close share it will do checking/compare the actual file hash with in the db.

because of that when i remove the cache file and start share, it give me init error if by then I copy back the cache file, it will be ok. my mistake is by clicking create cache on init failed file . because by doing this share update the database with the new hash. that why when i try to put back afterward ,share give me init error and remove the file.

SOLUTION.
start share and let the problem file to atleast download a part , then copy the cache file to overwrite it. try to click on convert the file. then it will show the size of your cache file.

In the download tabs it says its done, but Share cannot build the file to the correct filesize, and stops, only to switch from 100% complete down to 99% complete, download what I assume is a new copy of the corrupted piece and restart the building process only to get stuck again and repeat the process.

For every files I try to download , including the orange ones, I cannot find complete chunks for it, even if I've left Share running for many hours.
Sometimes happen that all chunks are found but then get lost after some minute.
As a sidenote, Share is proper configured , nodes are contacted ,I've no error or warning in the log , all things are running smoothly.
Stated that this happen with all file I try to download ,just to exclude some weird problem on my side ,and according to your experiences , do you notice a very long time before Share is able to contact(if there are present, of course) all nodes carrying all the needed chunks?
Thanks!

Man youre A GUEST on the japanese network, at least treat it with respect and upload as much as you possibly can! Personally i can upload max about 45 kb/s and im giving everything to share even though it slows down the internet in general.

Remember that we are guests on the japanese network and if we annoy or leech too much they WILL find a way to get rid of us. But if we behave nicely and share as much as possible they will probably be ok with us using their network, or even like it -> we can also be on their network in the future.

I installed both versions of share and I can only download files with the UDP-version. With the TCP-version, I can make queries, the upload works but the downloads never start. That's why I tried the UDP-version. With this one everything works fine, but for many queries I didn't find anything (for the same queries I found something with the TCP-version...). Are the majority of the share users using the TCP-version? Is it the reason for the big difference in the queries?

I'm connecting to the internet through a router. For both share versions I opened ports. I don't understand why it's working with the UDP-version and not with the TCP one.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sleep nodes are fine, you have to wait until something starts downloading to be connected to a node.
Check if there was another program using the same port, or just change the port to something else to see if the problem would reappear.

You are connected to white sleep nodes. They are just sleeping until they make a search/ul request to you or you make a search/dl request to them.

144 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-11-14 17:43 ID:kf9eOsPn [Del]

Wrong, you're not connected to white sleep nodes, there are 3 kinds of sleep nodes grey, red and white, grey means the node has yet to be tested for connectivity, red means the test failed (the node is offline or unreachable), and white means the node has been tested and it's connectable (but after the test share automatically disconnects from that node). The second part of your statement however is correct.
Just keep in mind one thing when it comes to Share or Winny - patience is your friend, queue up a lot of stuff and leave your computer on for as long as possible.

what happen if i added nodes to my list which are not the of same version, are they skipped ?

do users of different version can connect wich each others, if no wich version have much users?

why the list nodes is so frequently refreshed, do the old
adress nodes become obsolete or are they simply supposed to be a bridge in some way for new users ?

at hashdb.com why the hash isn't working for share, is it in another format, if yes is there a converter or is it working simply destined to work for another jap p2p prog if yes wich one?

Add the hash to your triggers (Triggers tab).

when you add hashdb.com's hash to the triggers tab like you say a prompt with an error "bad hash" intervene coz i counted the hash's character and in share it need 40 and hashdb.com give you 32 or 36.
my question was what are thos hash from hashdb.com for?

151 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-11-17 05:57 ID:kf9eOsPn [Del]

it is because hashdb.com is for winny, not share

ok ,i guess i didn't gave winny enough time.
do you know the origins of the threads from hashdb.com, are they add by users directly in the sites or is the site indexing them from the bbs'es.?

in the trigger tab add a trigger with the hash of the file you can also enter the name.
and if you want to hasten things add this cluster アプリ(it means "application") to your cluster list choices.
and after this you just have to wait :)

161 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-11-19 06:48 ID:I3uPh0zU [Del]

The name can be even longer than 50-60 characters np, in fact that file is now on someone's hard drive so it should be able to be named like that. Have you ever downloaded a file with japanese characters in filename before successfully? Did you set up the coding to japanese for your windows (language and regional settings->advanced)? That's about everything I could think of that could potentially be causing problem beside the file system being anything but NTFS, which you already have. One more thing that you could try is to change the download folder to another drive if you have more than 1 drive. Good luck.

First of all a big thank you going out to all the peeps trying to help me out. I did go to the advanced setting and changed it to japanese but it still gives me the same error- error opening output file.Ive used Everest home edition to analyse my hard drive and it says quite clerly that it is ntfs. i tried changing the download folder location but to no avail. in the meanwhile i downloaded a small plugin file and that file has converted automatically and successfully. i have downloaded files with japanese character names before and they seemed ok. Does anyone have any ideas? Im really at my wits end here.

163 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-11-19 09:18 ID:PkRUzp5O [Del]

Update: the file name for this file has around 10 japanese characters followed by 15 or so blank spaces followed by the rest of the file name in japanese. I tried downloading another file which was similarly named - this file was only a few hundred bytes but the filename was similarly formatted. And i got the same error while trying to convert this small file!(Error opening output file). So its not a hard drive problem. Its not a naming problem because i have downloaded file names with japanese characters and they convert/display properly. Is it a problem with the file name permitted characterisitics in windows xp home?

i wouldnt normally be so anal retentive about one file - but i have like around a dozen other similar size files at around 40-80% and i really dont want a month of downloading going down the drain.

164 Name: alkarl 2005-11-19 14:47 ID:Bw513tEQ [Del]

i have downloaded similar file with winny he had 255 characters in the name but it converted though.
but when i wanted to extract it i could not nor renaming was possible, i tried various renaming program but no one could do it.
finally i found a way.i build a cd image with nero that contained the file and after that the file was at a 8.3 name format then extracted it.
i know that you are blocked at the converting stade..
try to redownload the small file you talked about in other version than the one you are using and see if it convert and after that you would know what to do.
or maybe try to find where the name is stocked and change it, that if you are able to find it :s

165 Name: alkarl 2005-11-19 16:34 ID:Bw513tEQ [Del]

i have done some experiment and i think i found a way.
after checking the content of several files and their corresponding caches with an hexadecimal editor;
i found that the cached files had a header of 27 bytes and crypted content that corespond to the size of the filename it was related to;
what i've done is that i opened the cachefile and took off the header (the first 27 characters) and after that moved and renamed the file to a new directory for ex:(\sharea82\upload\pool\pol.bin)and then add the folder as an "upload folder";
then typed a query pol.bin and checked the link button,
then right clicked->convert. after it converted i just renamed the new cache file(you will recognize it by it's size) to what extension it was and that's it.. because the name info will be lost.
for you the problem is that humongus file, try first with the small file and see if it work if it does not then the header is not 27 standard in this case you can easily solve the problem by calculating it (cache size - filename size) the filename size is annouced by share and that's also a lucky point because it an exact size ..
i used ultra-edit to hexaedit the file, i hope that you are accustomed to those kind of procedure.
:)

i forgot to tell that when the conversion is complete you have to supress the header another time.
and that i did not manage to get it to work when the difference between the cached size and the file size is more than 27 bytes.
and also i suspect that the file information is stocked in the file hashdb.db.

168 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip 2005-11-20 09:41 ID:PkRUzp5O [Del]

It looks like it s a file name problem indeed. The number of characters in the file name are more than 255! i tried to fool the program into overwriting a dummy .iso file i created in c: (its only allowing me to create the file name in c: as in this case only 2 characters are being used up for the directory part of the file name. In any other directory the file name length is crossing 255 and getting truncated because the filename length of 255 also includes the directory path) im trying to do what you suggested but i have very limited experience with hex editors and headers and such. I have a program called hex workshop. I opened the small file ( this also has more than 255 characters) and im trying to see how to modify the header? it has a 27 byte header according to your formula. Thanks a ton for trying to help out. Am looking forward to your reply.

i tried tinkering around a bit. The cache size for the huge file is around a 110,000 bytes off from the file size displayed in share. So im assuming this will not work out? I tried the hex edit with the smaller file size. The header for this was around 27 bytes and so i knocked off the required number of character pairs from the begining of the hex and stored the new file as pol.bin :) and i deleted the cache file. Then i searched for pol.bin , found it and asked share to convert it. I got an error message saying 'error reading clokc hash'. Where did i go wrong/ I cut down the cache file size to exactly match the file size displayed in the download window. any thoughts?

So?
The Soulseek server is in the US I assume, and the majority of Japanese users I've encountered so far are outright LEECHERS, i.e. queuing a ridiculous amount of files with very few to no files shared. We might as well find a way to get rid them.
And since when do national borders exist for any P2P network? I'm sick to death of the Japanese tendency to only share with their own people. Back in the days when WinMX was their P2P program of choice, God knows how many times I was refused a trade simply becuase I was found out to be a foreigner. And WinMX wasn't developed by the Japanese in the first place!
So now they've got their own programs & networks, good for them. But some even go as far as blcoking overseas domains in the config file. WTF? Just shows how insular the Japanese really are I guess.

Just because someone else is a asshole doesn't mean you have to be a asshole aswell.
Treat others as you want others to treat u :P

And i can promise you, if non-japanese people keep leeching off japanese network (which isn't meant for you or me like it or not) they will block non japanese ip or find another way of keeping us out. So no matter what leeching wont help you.

And yes most japanese people are very racist but thats not a excuse for acting like a jerk.

Do not misunderstand.
I play by the rule on every P2P network I use. For Share and Winny I probably have a better share than the average Japanese user does (filenames in Japanese also), and I swear I upload much more than I download.
The point is that leechers are everywhere, be they foreign or domestic. I'm pretty sure many Japanese leech off their own networks as well. If they really block overseas IPs altogether, I'd say it's not only racist but also stupid, for they only get rid of a tiny part of leechers.
Some Japanese have already targeted Chinese and Korean IPs for blockage, but that has more to do with nationalism and politics than anything else. Users from, say, Europe and North America are still not their main concern as far as I know.
BTW I'm not >>64, just some passerby venting his frustration with the Japanese attitude. Sorry for going off-topic. I have nothing more to say.

trying to solve the output file problem:
-every file that you download have it's "cachefile" stored.
(recognized by it's size very close to the file you downloaded)
-after the download is finished share would convert the "cachefile" into the file recognized by your os.
-even after converting, the cache file wouldn't be deleted (except if you are stepping out from your quota.. that would lead in data loss..)
-if you try to compare the file and it's "cachefile" in a hex editor (a .txt can make it easier to understand) you will notice
that there is two major differences:
#the characters used are not the same. (that's "encryption")
#there is more characters in the "cachefile" than in the file and assumming that those characters are stored firstly in the cache file that' a "header" . (mainly serving the programs to identify the file types)

so the main idea is: if one is able to get rid of those two differences one can retrieve manually the file from it's cache.

First: getting rid of the header imply detecting it, so knowing the proprety of the header that is :the header is stocked in a file firstly.
that would mean to us that the header is those characters in the "cachefile" that exceed from the file size limit(knowing that each character in a hex-editor = 1byte ).
steps:
calculate the difference between the filesize and the "cachefile"size. and if the "cachefile"size is exceeding the filesize by "27bytes" you can continue this procedure.
using a hex editor just select the 27 first characters from the "cachefile" and delete them.
save the modified "cachefile" as ex: "pol.bin" in your Sharea82 upload directory.

Secondly: getting rid of the "encryption" is more simple
theorically if you encrypt an already encrypted file the file would lose it's encryption.
steps:
refresh your upload direcory and type in query "pol.bin"
and push the link filter button.
click right on "pol.bin" and convert (convert to cache) the file.
like that the encryption is lost and we have our binary file
back but the HEADER IS BACK also.
just go in the cache directory and retrieve the converted file (just make sure that it's the new file because there would be two files of the same size (by the creation date you should be able to recognize it)).
hex-edit it and delete the first 27bytes and save the modification on a new file to what extension it should have..that's all :)

notes:this solution works but only if the difference between the cachefilesize and the file size is of 27bytes.
this problem is related to the guessed cachefile-header-size.
-if somoene can find a way to identify the header when it's larger than 27bytes that would be a perfect solution.
-if you have followed those steps and got some errors when trying to convert to cache the "pol.bin" then i can't help:(
because i didn't use a file with the name error problem.
-i am not sure about that but if you are using quota and downloading huge files.your cached files can lose data and then retrieving attempts would be impossible.
sorry for the delay.

Thank you very much for your help, unfortunately my cache file is ~30 mb bigger than the actual file so i guess im SOL.

I solved my problem!
Im not sure this is gonna work for everyone, but it worked for me and everyone who has this problem with long filenames should give it a try.

I did two (very simple) things, and i think the latter is the actual reason i succesfully converted the file.
First of all i set my files to download to the root of my drive (d:)
Secondly i changed my 'language for non-unicode programs' settings from Japanese to my original language (!).

After a reboot i was able to succesfully convert the file :) give it a try.

I am having some trouble downloading. Whenever I check the tasks tab it shows some files start download but then they phase out with a "transmission error" in the status bar.

I believe I have taken all the necessary set up steps to run it correctly (set port forwarding, use node lists, create upload and cache directories etc. etc.) but to no avail.

Now I know that I am actually downloading (one file reports 7 MB out of several hundred done...) but at a really slow rate somewhere around 4.5-8 kb/sec whereas my upload is usually a healthy 40 kb/sec. Do I have a problem or is this more of a matter of patience? :/

Two other people have asked this: What does 'Cache amount' mean?

When choosing one of multiple available copies of a particular file, is it better to choose the highest or lowest cache amount?

Is there a way to share my 'download' folder, as in WinMX?

That is, so that any files that may complete downloading while I'm away from the computer will be immediately available for download from me?

No, I believe that specifying the same folder as both your down and up folder creates a sharing violation and makes Share crash.

I know this, it's what I initially tried; as of A82, at least, Share doesn't allow choosing the same folder for download and upload.

What I meant was more like: Are there any plugins that will automatically move files from the download folder to the upload folder upon their completion and conversion?

If your goal is just to upload what you've downloaded, isn't that already being accomplished with cache?

Is it? That is, is this what cache does? I hadn't known.
