I'm having trouble uploading. I have a file I want to introduce to the network, so I put it in my designated upload folder. However, it doesn't appear when I do a search. Is there another step I have to do?

Did you let the file finish uploading? If you did, it's hash information is supposed to be stored locally, and should show up when searching.

What exactly does the ID specify? Is it the user who originally uploaded the file to the network? Also why do some files have a ID and others don't?

ID is used for people who release stuff, so that you know that you're getting the real thing (there are a lot of fake files, as well as ones that are harmful to your computer on the network). Best example would be new versions of Share - always search for new versions with the author's ID, other files could contain garbage inside (viruses, trojans and so on).

ID is a tripcode, as 6 said. Share's type of ID is very nifty:

If you don't put a name, it works the same as Winny ID.
If you do put a name, it's more secure.

However, in the event that Share or Winny's ID system is cracked it won't be secure at all. I assume the author has countermeasures for this.

Sorry, I have never heard of any such site, and I'm not sure how that would work either since each user sets their own individual port for Winny/Share to use.

Make sure you aren't assigning the same port to both Share and Winny.

ok dl problem solved at least it show up on the dl list. but it still keeps on disconnecting. I just assigned random port that came into my mind like 4463. I don't have fire wall by the way. Oh and what's the use of cluster when you can just type stuff in search?

make sure the firewall that came with windows xp is off, and if you have a router than you most likely have a firewall. Nodes with the same clusters will get connected with each other more easily, thus looking for stuff from certain categories becomes easier.

okay here is the deal, if you click on the nodes tab you will see that some nodes have Test or Check in the Type column, and they disappear very quickly, don't worry about that, read the FAQ again to find out what those are. Other nodes are Sleep, but there are 2 types of Sleep, the grey ones haven't been tested for connectivity yet, the white ones have been tested and can be connected to to donwload or upload at any time. Simply put for both Share and Winny if you see that there is some uploading/downloading going on (in the status bar) it means everything is ok, if both ul/dl stay at 0kb for a while then the programs are not connecting at all.

ok the only thing that I didn't check is the system clock and everything else I checked. It still doesn't work. The thing is I do see very few white colored ones and I can't connect with them. Also, I won't worry too much if it keeps showing the nodes search. It just dissapears later and never come back on unless I press the connect button. The connect button automaticly gets turned off after 3minutes or so.

Most likely your router is blocking Share. For Share to work on my D-Link 524 I had to set rules in Virtual Server and Special Application. Should be similar for any other router I imagine.

I also have that "disconnected due to time check error" in Version A82 and I did set it right in Bios, Windows and Linux. I tried setting my time-zone to japanese as well, but I still get that error.

Now I have a question. :)
I want to download some files related to "X" However I don't want to download files with names like "X... Y...", "X...Z..." or "X... "rX"..." how should I create a rule for that? The rule I am using currently, a trigger with "X -y -z -"1y" -"1z"" doesn't really filter out the files I don't want.

Hi,
I 've tried to download some random small files for testing purpose.
In every case ,after I've got a chunk(or whatever is called) , the number listed under "order" ,indicating my position in a queue ,is vanished.

I've left Share open for several hours but nothing happened and i've no idea in what position I'am supposed to be in a queue.

according to the screenshot your computer couldn't find any node with all the chunks for the files, in the Status column you should see 1/2 and 1/7, which mean your node sees 1 chunk out of 2 for the first file and 1 out of 7 for the second one, and thus cannot completely finish the files. There is not much you can do other than wait patiently, this is how it works, just queue up a lot of stuff and there will be some that will finish quickly.

There is a plugin for that purpose, I think its name was ForcedFileConverter, or something along those lines. Though it will probably have problems converting corrupted files, it could work.

It could convert the files for you, but they will be corrupt so i don't see any point in doing so. The only good use for it is to force convert some files with enough recovery records to actually fix the files if they were to be converted prematurely (keep in mind that it doesn't always work). And of course there is another problem with files with japanese characters in filenames, which will render the plugin useless.

Oh and the solution could be very simple, as I have posted somewhere above - reset you router and modem and the problem will be gone, at least that what I did (been happening quite a lot lately, like every few days).

i've noted there is an upper limit in the total node, that is after some time Node Count reaches a maximum of 10000 and doesn't go further.

a) Wierd... i tested seting netlimiter to 1ks/s upload and the download increasely fell down... I have a thought that this has something to do with getting poor download speed.

Share need some upload bandwidth to communicate with other nodes, so don't go cap it at 1kb, keep it at around 10kb (I can max my down stream easily while capping upload at 10kb, YMMV though).
As for port for Share open the one you set up in Share options.

Any way that I can test to see whether I can download from share?

I have set up multiple triggers to download stuff, items were added to the download list.
Then I allowed Share to hang on for 3 days but nothing downloaded, not even 1k.
I can see I'm uploading at about 20k/s so port is probably working.

I have already set up the cache folder and download folder.

try to search for something that is popular, download the result that is in orange color, also check if there is any piece of the file in your download list available (Download tab, Status column if you see 0/x then not 1 node has even 1 piece for that file).

Gretting all, I have just download the latest vesrion of Share, but after setting it up, nothing happen when I do a search. I hope u guys can give me some help.
First of all can someone tell me what numbers should I enter for the port in the general setting section? Bear with me that I dont know jack about networking, if the port number is to acquire from my own computer, please tell me how to do so.
Second, can some1 tell me how to add nodes? After I enter those long numbers that they post on the website it said I can't use a domain name or somthing like that.
I have read the english faq and still have no clue about what to do, so .

You need to copy-paste the letter-number strings into the big box in the "Connect" dialog. Nothing else should go in there.
Once you are connected properly, you need to hit search, close the window, come back in a few minutes, refresh and see if you got anything. If you aren't connected, the search will only turn up results in your local database.

Actually I just asked some1 who can help me with those problem...
Now I got another problem, hope u guys can help me 1 more time.
When I search for a word (ex:tv) and press connect in the nodes tab, certain connection were showed for a brief while but than they disappear.
What have I dont wrong?
I have already add couple of nodes address and also added folder for each file type (tho I can not add a download folder in the same place as other folder do).

You can see the nodes only when you are searching/downloading/uploading, otherwise they are sleep nodes and can be seen if you turn "Show sleep nodes" option on (Nodes tab).

Look in the log. if it says "port error" you need to open your ports (might need help with that). if it says "time check error" fix your clock

Triggers let you set keywords that when your client finds a match, cue's up/downloads the matches. It's best to not use a very general term for a Trigger, as this can cause your client to cue up a shitload of files you might not want.

That's not filters, those are your cluster keywords.
And yes, you check and uncheck them depending on what you think would benefit your present search(es) the most.

Ok.. when I start Share it just gives me this error message:

Is there any limitation for the max number of download? Currently I have 44 items under my download tab and later on when I perform a search then right click on the file to add it to download, it doesn't take any effect (the color doesn't turn blue). May I know is there anyway to get through this?

Nodes constantly appear and disappear in my node list under the whole check/test/search status. When I click 'show sleep nodes' I can see a ton of nodes with some highlighted white. So does this mean things are working properly?

Because my search results are constantly changing. And I also have a high ratio of 'connection errors' to 'connection attempts'.

If you can see white sleep nodes than everything is fine. Search results change depending on which node you're connected to at the moment.

According to the uguu share guide, when 'order' is 1 the file should be ready to download. I see a few files in my download tab at order 1 with available file parts and none are downloading. Is that normal? I've set a quota on my cache folder.

A few days back I started having bandwidth problems while using Share. I allow 50KB/sec upload (I have a megabit upload total), and I used to download at 200-300KB/sec for a week straight - but now I'm only getting 40KB/sec even though my connection is getting saturated (all other machines behind my NAT router are only getting 1KB/sec while Share is running on one machine. Once I kill Share everyhting is fine. It's almost like I'm being DOS'ed. Has anyone seen this problem before?

If you want to stop downloading a file temporarily then there is a checkbox in front of every item in your download list, unchecking = Share will not download it.

not working but i found the solution.
ok here the trick (all here is my guess , so if wrong don't blame me).
there's 2 important file (hash.db & cache.idx). this file contain info to tell share the last hash file downloaded (my guess is to prevent corruption). every time it finish download a part,it update these files. so when u start share or close share it will do checking/compare the actual file hash with in the db.

because of that when i remove the cache file and start share, it give me init error if by then I copy back the cache file, it will be ok. my mistake is by clicking create cache on init failed file . because by doing this share update the database with the new hash. that why when i try to put back afterward ,share give me init error and remove the file.

SOLUTION.
start share and let the problem file to atleast download a part , then copy the cache file to overwrite it. try to click on convert the file. then it will show the size of your cache file.

Try to powercycle your router, seems like a lot of people have this problem including me and after I powercycle my router and modem everything gets back to normal for a few days. To powercycle your router and modem unplug them for a couple of minutes and then replug them.

For every files I try to download , including the orange ones, I cannot find complete chunks for it, even if I've left Share running for many hours.
Sometimes happen that all chunks are found but then get lost after some minute.
As a sidenote, Share is proper configured , nodes are contacted ,I've no error or warning in the log , all things are running smoothly.
Stated that this happen with all file I try to download ,just to exclude some weird problem on my side ,and according to your experiences , do you notice a very long time before Share is able to contact(if there are present, of course) all nodes carrying all the needed chunks?

Simple. Are u using a fat partition? Its have limit per archive with 3.9 Gb. Try using NTFS partition.

I installed both versions of share and I can only download files with the UDP-version. With the TCP-version, I can make queries, the upload works but the downloads never start. That's why I tried the UDP-version. With this one everything works fine, but for many queries I didn't find anything (for the same queries I found something with the TCP-version...). Are the majority of the share users using the TCP-version? Is it the reason for the big difference in the queries?

I'm connecting to the internet through a router. For both share versions I opened ports. I don't understand why it's working with the UDP-version and not with the TCP one.

Sleep nodes are fine, you have to wait until something starts downloading to be connected to a node.
Check if there was another program using the same port, or just change the port to something else to see if the problem would reappear.

You are connected to white sleep nodes. They are just sleeping until they make a search/ul request to you or you make a search/dl request to them.

Wrong, you're not connected to white sleep nodes, there are 3 kinds of sleep nodes grey, red and white, grey means the node has yet to be tested for connectivity, red means the test failed (the node is offline or unreachable), and white means the node has been tested and it's connectable (but after the test share automatically disconnects from that node). The second part of your statement however is correct.
Just keep in mind one thing when it comes to Share or Winny - patience is your friend, queue up a lot of stuff and leave your computer on for as long as possible.

your hard drive is most likely formatted with fat32 (it has the filesize limit of 4gb), convert it to ntfs and you will be fine (go google on how to do it)

The name can be even longer than 50-60 characters np, in fact that file is now on someone's hard drive so it should be able to be named like that. Have you ever downloaded a file with japanese characters in filename before successfully? Did you set up the coding to japanese for your windows (language and regional settings->advanced)? That's about everything I could think of that could potentially be causing problem beside the file system being anything but NTFS, which you already have. One more thing that you could try is to change the download folder to another drive if you have more than 1 drive. Good luck.

First of all a big thank you going out to all the peeps trying to help me out. I did go to the advanced setting and changed it to japanese but it still gives me the same error- error opening output file.Ive used Everest home edition to analyse my hard drive and it says quite clerly that it is ntfs. i tried changing the download folder location but to no avail. in the meanwhile i downloaded a small plugin file and that file has converted automatically and successfully. i have downloaded files with japanese character names before and they seemed ok. Update: the file name for this file has around 10 japanese characters followed by 15 or so blank spaces followed by the rest of the file name in japanese. I tried downloading another file which was similarly named - this file was only a few hundred bytes but the filename was similarly formatted. And i got the same error while trying to convert this small file!(Error opening output file). So its not a hard drive problem. Its not a naming problem because i have downloaded file names with japanese characters and they convert/display properly. Is it a problem with the file name permitted characterisitics in windows xp home?

i wouldnt normally be so anal retentive about one file - but i have like around a dozen other similar size files at around 40-80% and i really dont want a month of downloading going down the drain.

i have downloaded similar file with winny he had 255 characters in the name but it converted though.
but when i wanted to extract it i could not nor renaming was possible, i tried various renaming program but no one could do it.
finally i found a way.i build a cd image with nero that contained the file and after that the file was at a 8.3 name format then extracted it.
i know that you are blocked at the converting stade..
try to redownload the small file you talked about in other version than the one you are using and see if it convert and after that you would know what to do.
or maybe try to find where the name is stocked and change it, that if you are able to find it :s

i have done some experiment and i think i found a way.
after checking the content of several files and their corresponding caches with an hexadecimal editor;
i found that the cached files had a header of 27 bytes and crypted content that corespond to the size of the filename it was related to;
what i've done is that i opened the cachefile and took off the header (the first 27 characters) and after that moved and renamed the file to a new directory for ex:(\sharea82\upload\pool\pol.bin)and then add the folder as an "upload folder";
then typed a query pol.bin and checked the link button,
then right clicked->convert. after it converted i just renamed the new cache file(you will recognize it by it's size) to what extension it was and that's it.. because the name info will be lost.
for you the problem is that humongus file, try first with the small file and see if it work if it does not then the header is not 27 standard in this case you can easily solve the problem by calculating it (cache size - filename size) the filename size is annouced by share and that's also a lucky point because it an exact size ..
i used ultra-edit to hexaedit the file, i hope that you are accustomed to those kind of procedure.

and that i did not manage to get it to work when the difference between the cached size and the file size is more than 27 bytes.

It looks like it s a file name problem indeed. The number of characters in the file name are more than 255! i tried to fool the program into overwriting a dummy .iso file i created in c: (its only allowing me to create the file name in c: as in this case only 2 characters are being used up for the directory part of the file name. In any other directory the file name length is crossing 255 and getting truncated because the filename length of 255 also includes the directory path) im trying to do what you suggested but i have very limited experience with hex editors and headers and such. I have a program called hex workshop. I opened the small file ( this also has more than 255 characters) and im trying to see how to modify the header? it has a 27 byte header according to your formula. i tried tinkering around a bit. The cache size for the huge file is around a 110,000 bytes off from the file size displayed in share. So im assuming this will not work out? I tried the hex edit with the smaller file size. The header for this was around 27 bytes and so i knocked off the required number of character pairs from the begining of the hex and stored the new file as pol.bin :) and i deleted the cache file. Then i searched for pol.bin , found it and asked share to convert it. I got an error message saying 'error reading clokc hash'. Where did i go wrong/ I cut down the cache file size to exactly match the file size displayed in the download window. any thoughts?

The Soulseek server is in the US I assume, and the majority of Japanese users I've encountered so far are outright LEECHERS, i.e. queuing a ridiculous amount of files with very few to no files shared. We might as well find a way to get rid them.
And since when do national borders exist for any P2P network? I'm sick to death of the Japanese tendency to only share with their own people. Back in the days when WinMX was their P2P program of choice, God knows how many times I was refused a trade simply becuase I was found out to be a foreigner. And WinMX wasn't developed by the Japanese in the first place!
So now they've got their own programs & networks, good for them. But some even go as far as blcoking overseas domains in the config file. WTF? Just shows how insular the Japanese really are I guess.

Do not misunderstand.
I play by the rule on every P2P network I use. For Share and Winny I probably have a better share than the average Japanese user does (filenames in Japanese also), and I swear I upload much more than I download.
The point is that leechers are everywhere, be they foreign or domestic. I'm pretty sure many Japanese leech off their own networks as well. If they really block overseas IPs altogether, I'd say it's not only racist but also stupid, for they only get rid of a tiny part of leechers.
Some Japanese have already targeted Chinese and Korean IPs for blockage, but that has more to do with nationalism and politics than anything else. Users from, say, Europe and North America are still not their main concern as far as I know.
BTW I'm not >>64, just some passerby venting his frustration with the Japanese attitude. Sorry for going off-topic. I have nothing more to say.

trying to solve the output file problem:
-every file that you download have it's "cachefile" stored.
(recognized by it's size very close to the file you downloaded)
-after the download is finished share would convert the "cachefile" into the file recognized by your os.
-even after converting, the cache file wouldn't be deleted (except if you are stepping out from your quota.. that would lead in data loss..)
-if you try to compare the file and it's "cachefile" in a hex editor (a .txt can make it easier to understand) you will notice
that there is two major differences:
#the characters used are not the same. (that's "encryption")
#there is more characters in the "cachefile" than in the file and assumming that those characters are stored firstly in the cache file that' a "header" . (mainly serving the programs to identify the file types)

so the main idea is: if one is able to get rid of those two differences one can retrieve manually the file from it's cache.

First: getting rid of the header imply detecting it, so knowing the proprety of the header that is :the header is stocked in a file firstly.
that would mean to us that the header is those characters in the "cachefile" that exceed from the file size limit(knowing that each character in a hex-editor = 1byte ).
steps:
calculate the difference between the filesize and the "cachefile"size. and if the "cachefile"size is exceeding the filesize by "27bytes" you can continue this procedure.
using a hex editor just select the 27 first characters from the "cachefile" and delete them.
save the modified "cachefile" as ex: "pol.bin" in your Sharea82 upload directory.

Secondly: getting rid of the "encryption" is more simple
theorically if you encrypt an already encrypted file the file would lose it's encryption.
steps:
refresh your upload direcory and type in query "pol.bin"
and push the link filter button.
click right on "pol.bin" and convert (convert to cache) the file.
like that the encryption is lost and we have our binary file
back but the HEADER IS BACK also.
just go in the cache directory and retrieve the converted file (just make sure that it's the new file because there would be two files of the same size (by the creation date you should be able to recognize it)).
hex-edit it and delete the first 27bytes and save the modification on a new file to what extension it should have..that's all :)

notes:this solution works but only if the difference between the cachefilesize and the file size is of 27bytes.
this problem is related to the guessed cachefile-header-size.
-if somoene can find a way to identify the header when it's larger than 27bytes that would be a perfect solution.
-if you have followed those steps and got some errors when trying to convert to cache the "pol.bin" then i can't help:(
because i didn't use a file with the name error problem.
-i am not sure about that but if you are using quota and downloading huge files.your cached files can lose data and then retrieving attempts would be impossible.

I solved my problem!
Im not sure this is gonna work for everyone, but it worked for me and everyone who has this problem with long filenames should give it a try.

I did two (very simple) things, and i think the latter is the actual reason i succesfully converted the file.
First of all i set my files to download to the root of my drive (d:)
Secondly i changed my 'language for non-unicode programs' settings from Japanese to my original language (!).

After a reboot i was able to succesfully convert the file :) give it a try.

I am having some trouble downloading. Whenever I check the tasks tab it shows some files start download but then they phase out with a "transmission error" in the status bar.

I believe I have taken all the necessary set up steps to run it correctly (set port forwarding, use node lists, create upload and cache directories etc. etc.) but to no avail.

Now I know that I am actually downloading (one file reports 7 MB out of several hundred done...) but at a really slow rate somewhere around 4.5-8 kb/sec whereas my upload is usually a healthy 40 kb/sec. Do I have a problem or is this more of a matter of patience? :/

It it normal for it to only connect to nodes for 20-30 seconds at a time? After around that time the node disconnects. If I'm lucky, it may stay connected for a minute or two. Also, what is considered average as far as the number of nodes you're connected to goes? I only seem to be able to connect to 4 or 5 at a time.

a couple of download nodes, a couple upload nodes, and a couple or more of search nodes.
what you described is quite normal for test, check and even search nodes, however download and upload nodes should stay longer than 20-30 sec.

The program connects to some nodes; I can search files and add into the download window; Search Up and Search Down have data transfer, but I have no Share Down data transfer.

One more thing is that if there file is rare then you won't get anything at all, check the Download tab to see if Share has found any piece for that file, try to download orange search results as they are available more than say white ones. Also check the Upload tab to see if you have Turbo on, which should be off unless you want to just upload without downloading. And finally like the poster above said be very patient, some files might take you months to finish if at all.

OK, This morning Share started to download some files. Now my router is on fire, it downloads with 130 Kb/sec average speed :)

But I've another question. One video has incomplete sources and I donwloaded an 85%. If I chose the option Convert Share only converts the first 60 seconds, and it is stucked on the first missing part. I found out a pluging called ForceFileConverter but I don't know how to use.

I have installed the pluging in Share, now there are 2 new options below Convert option, but the program still converts the first 60 seconds.

My router seems to be getting overloaded and crashing whenever I use Share for a while. When looking up this issue re: other P2P programs, people have suggested limiting the amount of connections the P2P program makes. Is there any way of doing this with Share A82?

You need to look for a different fix, as Share is unlike other P2P programs, where you can be connected to hundreds or even thousands of other clients at the same time. Share will make a connection only when it needs to download or upload (including searching), and briefly when it tests the nodes for connectivity (even then it does not test them all together but one by one). Typically the number of connections won't exceed around 15-20 at a time (which shouldn't cause any overloading issue).

Ok, this clock issue is very confusing. Whenever someone asked about it the response is usually "fix your clock" but thats not clear enough. Fix it how? Do you mean the time will be wrong in the clock or in Share? If in Share HOW do we fix it?

Also, I have no firewall or router but I cant connect to any nodes? I look at the sleeping nodes list and about 90% of them are sleeping(and greyed out), when I try to connect it only tests a handful of the nodes? Plz explain what I may be doing wrong...

So... does this mean all is going well? I've been fiddling with Share for ages (recently came back to give it another try). I forwarded ports so I don't get disconnect errors anymore, but it seems the search results are dismal. I've tried searching for (C69) , it's also in my Clusters, but no results! I get results for アニメ but the list is quite long, and there appear to be troll results. Do people block otheres that do not share material by default? Is my node list the problem? Is there some kind of general guide I can use to get some kind of optimal result? I'll queue up random interesting files and see if any download in a week.

Yes, as well as all the things you're currently downloading (plus stuff from diffused dl/ul) so I would advise against manually deleting any cache. Just do a search on whatever you have downloaded successfully before, they should have an orange status bar (complete), right click on any you want to remove and choose "Delete from cache".

I'd like to know some decisive facts about the working process of share.

  1. Does the cluster-keywords specify or widen the search process ? Example: I have 2 cluster-keywords for lossless stuff:

' ape ' and ' flac ' .
Does that mean that the program searches contacts to nodes
having ' ape ' OR ' flac ' as a cluster-keyboard, or
does it just searches for nodes having ' ape ' AND ' flac '
as cluster-keywords ?

2. Does it make sense to set a keyword like ' ape ' twice as
a cluster-keycord - one time written in occidental signs and
one time written in japanese signs - or is that redundant ?

3. Is there is a limit of queries one should not go over, if one
want to have as much results for each particular seach as possible
and does the program gets slower the more searches you have parallelly ???

This point is hard to describe. There are programs in with you
for instance, start so search for file A, a few seconds later
you start to search for file B then. What happens to file
A-search meanwhile ? It instantly stopped as soon as it wasn't
the actual search anymore, which, of course, sux.
Does share work the same ?

4.
In what language should I type in the quere-search, in order
to achieve the highest possible number of search results,
if the files I am searching for are NOT from asia ?

I've been having a problem just recently. I'll start Share up and everything will go just fine for about five or ten minutes. Then suddenly the node-connecting process will go absolutely BERSERK and try to test 15 Up connections at once (I'm probably using all sorts of wrong terminology here) and cause my ethernet card to go kaboom, and then I have to reset it.   1. I'm pretty sure it's ape AND flac, just try a query, if you search for 2 words you get results containing both of them. From what I can tell most lossless albums are in ape format anyway, you can find flac releases but very few of them. If you need both then you need to use 2 clusters.

2. I've never seen any ape release with ape written using japanese characters.

3. Share will focus on the query that is being focused on, but doesn't mean it doesn't search for other queries at all. I personally have a lot of queries open and once in a while I go through all of them and most of the times I find new hits for many of them.

4. Try both - in English (or whatever language the file is originated from) and Japanese as well.

With it being a port error I changed the port and opened up the new port in my router but to no avail. I've also tried adding in a new set of nodes but that's not working either. Is there anything else I can try or would a fresh install of Share cure the problem?

How do you delete completed files from the cache? I have downloaded a couple of big 4GB files and upon completion they were converted/copied to my download directory, however the file is still also in the cache.

I've tried searching for the file again (and it shows up orange and 'completed') and selecting the 'delete from cache' option however nothing happens, and I'm now running out of space since I have to have two copies of everything, one downloaded file and one in the cache. I read on the Uguu guide that you shouldn't delete files manually from cache as it can screw Share up. Any idea what to do?

try searching for the file again (and it shows up orange and 'completed'), select the file, and press ctrl+del

Move the completed file to an upload folder and press the 'quick check' button from the folders tab. Share should scan your upload directories and delete the cache automagicly.

I'm still getting this Disconnected due to port error problem. I've tried deleting my Share folder and downloading a new copy, rebooting my router doesn't help and changing ports doesn't help either. I've also tried the UDP version and that won't work either. Does this mean that Share is never going to work anymore for me :(

I think is a mapping of IP number -> Country ID

if ID of two client is the same priority of that node increase.
I think the author want "resolve" the problem of low download speed in Japan where upload speed is more high than download speed.

my download is really horrible since ex2 release. before that I been happy for using A82 for awhile . I downloading a file (latest) with only 200 mb (about 2000 cache), I left it whole day when I back and check the file only downloaded 20 mb . when I check the logs, it show downloaded is 900 mb. so what is going on here , previously is not like this. if things continue like this more people will abandon using share

I could not add any nodes, I pasted the encrypted code and clicked add but nothing happend. So I just closed it. Then later I open Share and it tests my nodes (now there are many in the list) and only 1 or 2 becomes a Yellow Test of Orange Check. Then they all disconnect. How can I connect to nodes properly ?

it is normal that the nodes all are not connected. You connect yourself only to the nodes which you need.
If you does not have error messages in the log and if you can make research of files you do not have to be anxious .

Found a file which I want - at the end of the filename it says "Pass」「関係者用」". The rar asks for a password - I'm guessing the pass is the Japanese characters: 関係者用. But it doesn't work. Those characters translate in babelfish as "For authorized personnel" if that's any help.

Have tried the pass with the 「 at the start and end but still no go. Any ideas?

Search a nfo file an try to open it with the "memo pad" of windows , maybe the pass is inside the nfo

I'm having problems with rar files. I downloaded a bunch of new things today, all with rar extensions. But winrar won't open them. Says the archives are corrupt or in an unknown format.

Are they damaged and need redownloading? Are they fakes? Are they some other format even though they end in .rar? Is winrar having problems with the japanese character set? I've tried check and recover and they still don't work.

Winrar has problems with japanese characters and (falsely) responds with "corrupted file". If you're using Windows XP I would advise you to try "Microsoft AppLocale" to start winrar (or any other application) with emulated "jp" system local.

I tried to open 1041 (just pick it randomly) one my router for Share and have followed the tutorial to set up the General Settings properly. I also turned my firewall. However, I am still not downloading anything. The Share searches fine (for both nodes and files) but for some reasons, it just never begins to download.

I observe the port activities and find something weird... Share did use port 1041 and some other ports (really high port number, port 3027 for example) when I just start Share. But all these port activites just disappear within minutes after I start the Share..... uhmm... Can anyone help me? What could go wrong here?

I am using Windows XP and Share A82 (Can't find EX2 anywhere and so I am trying to download EX2 through Share)...

I recently quit using Share for awhile and now am back to using it, however do to some drive problems I had to scrap the old setup I had of it.

I managed to recover the config files intact (ports, folders and all intact) and made a new setup for EX2, but even after its done doing its initial uploading (it always does for new setups and new cache making), downloads just don't seem to start... (---;)

not sure whats going on here, as some files i've triggered and had listed in downloads are right there priority 0 and order 1 and 3/3 available... but they don't start. I've removed "slow up/down" options from earlier as well so if any connections occurred at all the files should have progressed somewhat. But still at 0. Its quite strange since I was downloading on my previous setup quite well without problems.

I'm going to try and change ports if it still doesn't work tomorrow, but any help would be appreaciated.

However, it seems like I have a problem connecting to nodes.
The first time I used EX2 (last week), I easily connected to all the nodes Share tried to connect. But it seems that there's something wrong as I had difficulty connecting again since this week.

i have had the same problem since yesterday, Share tries to connect to every node but it just says "test" and goes to the next one. Envetually Share will just stop trying to connect and just sit there after a minute or two.

This is really werid behavior, i have tried changing port connecting directly to the internet and even did a new installation. Nothing would work...looking for help ^^

A question: I read on wikipedia that the minimum up/down speed of Share is 50 kb/s.
What if my max connection upstream is 45 kb/s?

It's as if the other nodes couldn't connect to me and so the check fails. Strange thing is that i deactivated my firewall and connected without my router and still, those clients can't seem to connect to my box..

The only thing that changed between the before and after is that i did an installation of windows Vista (the beta) on the same partition but i can't see how this could affect Share..

If there are problems with the port, Share will first try to connect to hosts, and then terminate the connections with the port error message afterwards. I guess something must be wrong with your router forwarding, unless it's Windows that's blocking.

Hmmm the guide should have given you a good idea of how clusters and queries work. Anyway

  1. There used to be a list of common clusters, but I can't really recall where it was located at, but yes you can make your own clusters, but the way clusters work is like this: Share will connect to nodes with the same cluster(s) to search and download, thus if your cluster is unique it will be useless. Clusters help people seeking/sharing the same stuff get connected. Basically when you first start you have just a few nodes in your list (which can grow to include 10000 nodes), you then define your clusters, Share will connect to the nodes in your list and any of them sharing at least 1 same cluster will be kept, otherwise they will be removed. It works much better than it sounds though, as when contacting other nodes they will send you their own list of nodes having the same clusters as yours. Basically use whatever you're looking for as clusters (the categories, not something specific), such as music, anime, mp3 and so on.
  2. What do you mean? You can use single words as clusters of course, and you can have up to 5 clusters, that's all.
  3. No it's not wise, you should not define the file as a cluster, rather use a cluster defining the type of the file, such as music, manga, anime, etc. And of course for finding a specific file use query, note that sometimes it's better to search for a part of the filename only for better results.
  4. Yes.
  5. I think by now you should understand the difference between the two: clusters are for identifying nodes so they can get connected if they have the same one(s), search queries are for searching whatever the nodes are sharing.

It would be very inconvinient if the address changed every time you rebooted your PC. Seems unlikely, but not impossible. However, most routers do let you keep the same IP for quite a while. If you find some option to bind an IP to a specific MAC address, then you can make it static.

You need to forward the port (the one you choose for Share) on the router, otherwise it won't work.

Has anyone come accoss this?

Share works fine, but if I close share and re-open it, a large number of downloads will come up red INIT-FAILED.

I thought it was bacasue I had too many files in the dl q, but it happens when I only have about 70 files. (most of them have been there for ages and are not likely to download) When this happens, the log shows "deleting unused cache file" for each of the init-failed files.

Has anyone seen this happen? Like I said, share works perfectly for days and weeks, and im fine as long as I dont close share.

It may be that the files you are downloading are rare and no one has the complete file, thus it will never finish downloading. Try to download a file that is orange, and if you can download all of it, then you will know that the problem is not your pc

Hi folks, bit of a problem

Recently jumped to EX2 from A82, done the usual routine and loaded up a new noad list. However, I'm unable to connect to any nodes; info tab for connection errors just keeps rising, no acknowledge counts whatsoever. Global IP does not contain any numbers, if its any use.

Using ports 10500, forwarded from router...no real problems in log tab. Any help will be appreciated!

I'm having the "Disconnected due to port error" and I'm unable to fix it. I've tried several (routed) ports that lead straight to my machine. Every other program I have running reports no problem.

For the record, portrange 4000-5000 leads straight to my box(port range 4000-5000) it's a 1on1 map. I've tried several ports in that range, I've tried several ports outside that range and routing those through to my box on the router. No luck however.

Netstat shows me that a lot of clients appear to be on TIME_WAIT while I'm connecting to them, or they are waiting to me.

Well, i installed Share and got most of it working, forwarded my ports, made sure the time was right, set folders. I even connected a began to download a file then i got a:

That indeed is strange, the only thing I can think of is to make sure that the time zone you have set is correct for your region and the date is correct. I wouldn't imagine 12 seconds would affect anything, but you never know ?_?

The time check error usually occurs when you have the wrong time set in Windows. Make sure the time/date/region is correct for your area. 377>> If you have a router, then you need to correctly forward the port you are using for Share. A few questions:

How do I increase "Search Up"? (Search Upload) My "Search Down" (Search Download) is always at 4 and Upload at 1, I want to balance it in favor of upload.

How do I clear completed downloads from the search lists? (Ie. Even if I delete the file from the download folder, when I search for the same file in Share it says it is already completed still.)

How do I properly clear my cache? I moved my completed download files to Upload folder and ran quickcheck, but didn't clear.

@Anonymous(bin+cue).zip (381/385): Make sure there's no firewall on your computer or your router, and check to be sure your router is p2p-friendly. Some Linksys routers, for example, need a firmware change to do p2ps. Also, be sure your connection goes at 50 kB/s minimum. The completed downloads are still listed as completed because they're still in your cache. To clear a file from your cache, right click it and choose the option "キャッシュ削除". I don't recommend it though. You'll get more download opportunities if your cache is large.

@RskTwLT◆aAFYIfrilU (383): I think you need to use your own trip.

@blargh (384): I've never seen that message before. Try re-downloading the exe file; maybe it's corrupt.

What you say about the cache is interesting though. I thought the files I upload are the ones that are in the upload folder? I assume that they are all in my cache, does that mean it is safe for me to move those files in the upload folder away?

@385/387: I don't know what you can do about the ratio. The cache stores all the files you have downloaded, but not necessarily all the files you are uploading. It keeps the files in there for a long time, though I think it may eventually delete them. There's no reason why you need to upload duplicate copies of files, so it's fine if you move them away.

The file names are pretty simple to understand... the bad files that 391 is talking about are only the ones where the file names don't make sense... for example, they simultaneously label the file as a video game, an anime episode, a comic book, an album by SMAP, and list the names of 10 porn stars in the file name.

@Thomas: Did you add nodes? Check to be sure they are connecting alright; if they aren't, you may have a firewall problem. Also, be sure you really are using the right wording; often even when Japanese name things in English, they write it in katakana instead of romaji. If that doesn't help, then maybe you are just searching for something that nobody has. Try doing a very general search as a test, like コミック, お笑い, アニメ or even "avi".

@kat: I don't think there's anything wrong with your Share. If you look in the downloads tab, probably Share is not finding sources for the rest of the files and that's why they do not finish.

There is no "incomplete" folder. There is a cache folder though. In share, under the queries tab, you can see what files are incomplete. The blue ones. If you right click on the file you want to see and click convert, the incomplete file should end up in your download folder.

Blue = a file you're downloading already
Red = a fake file
Green = ? (I don't think I've seen green before...)

Complete files are files that you finished downloading that are still in your cache. DB files are files that you have hashed, but that are no longer in your cache or in your upload folder.

It's still working fine for me so it's definitely not anything wrong with the network.
The only thing I could think of now is that you guys might have set up the disk quota, and thus there's no space for new downloads, try freeing up some space or removing some of the completed cache files.

Searching in share is a slooow process because you can only connect to so many nodes at a given time. It may take days before you start getting good results, and in most cases you probably want to use triggers instead.

This was driving me crazy and the behavior of Share was somewhat bizarre. Besides not downloading, it would show bogus amount of available data for files. The order (queue) number was incorrect as well; it would have matching numbers for many files and deincrement simultaneously with the others. Eventually the number would reach 1, and then just sit there doing nothing. Rarely, it would show that I had downloaded some scant amount of a file, but upon later restarting Share, it would report "init failed" for that file.

I fixed the problem by assigning a very high port number. Everything works correctly now.

Yeah I get it now. It seems to work similarly to Freenet.
Once you upload something, it gets divided into blocks and spread onto the network. So I guess that the blocks go into the caches of other users. Makes sense.

That would be the rough translation the rest of the file name is showing that it is a video file in .mkv format using Xvid codecs.

You download it the same as any other file if it shows up in your search double click on it.

If it's a diffused upload (this you can check in the Nodes tab) then no unless there's a plugin that can do that and I'm not aware of it. The fact that you don't know what it is also help in keeping everything as anonymous as possible.
Also keep in mind that your upload stream is not used for uploading contents only, it's used for queries as well as for sharing nodes information as well.

If you have a file queued for upload, Share will try to distribute it over the network as diffuse uploads. This is mainly useful for getting new files out.

If you place a file in an upload directory, Share automatically deletes it from the cache. This seems to me a better solution than keeping two copies of the data around like >>479 suggests.

transmission errors are normal. if you want, check to be sure that your computer's firewall and your router's firewall is not blocking winny/share, and that your router is not a shitty old one that may be having trouble with the transfers. if your router is a linksys, check the forums at utorrent.com for a solution.

you could also go into share's settings and be sure that it is not set to disconnect from slow peers.

My cable connection goes directly from the modem to my computer so I dont think I need to port forward anything, and when I test the ports they say they're open. Share, like Winny, prioritizes users based on how much they upload. If people are not downloading from you, there are a couple things you can do:
1. Download a popular file from the network, and leave it in your cache folder to upload.
2. Rename the files in your upload folder so that they will come up in the search results for relevant Japanese keywords. For example, if you are sharing "[Ani-Jiyuu]​_Detective​_Conan​_-​_401​_[606359E2].​avi" rename it to "[Ani-Jiyuu]​_Detective​_Conan​_-​_401​_[606359E2] 名探偵コナン 第401話 (英語字幕).​avi"

Share and Winny both prioritize users by how much they upload and how fast their connection is. I have more experience with Winny than Share, but since Share is based on Winny I expect it works similarly. You can still get downloads when your up is capped to 5 kB/s, but the program won't work as nicely... you don't get download slots as often and you don't connect to nodes as often.

There's a lot of sites out there that explain how Winny and Share work, if you want more details, I'd do a Google search.

Lately, I seem to be having problems staying connected to any particular node long enough for a download to start. (When I check the node statuses in the Node tab, I'm only getting 'Check' and 'Test' types, instead of 'Search' or the download type)

Well.. no actually. AFAIK, nothing's been changed since the time that Share was working. I don't have a router and I've tried it with the firewall both on and off, with no visible difference.

Has Share changed versions or something recently? (According to the Help->About function, my version of share is just the plain, vanilla Ver 1.0 EX2)

It doesn't matter what node list you originally used. As long as Share knows of at least one working node, it can download information about other nodes when it feels like it.

Keep your firewall off to run Share, or open a port for it. It won't work if it's firewalled.

It's one of the most popular node database and I have a few downloads that lost track of the seeders due to this problem...
Your Share is not receiving any updated nodes, that's why it's "checking" & "testing" ..searching through the old nodes to find live ones..try these node databases, hopefully you can at least connect to some nodes

There is a reason that an updated node database exists. Nodes are encrypted IPs of other users. It's a p2p system.
Users are connected through each other and not to a central server. Normally, you can still get connected when your nodes are outdated, as long as somebody on your outdated list has a static IP. But when a major node database is down and almost everyone don't get an updated list...that's when an outdated list won't work well....
anyway, the database is back up today and I'm connected to my sources again.

I don't understand what you mean. Nodes (other share users) are supposed to get disconnected. You connect to nodes to get search results/more nodes and hopefully the file you wanted. If that user doesn't have the file you want, your share client disconnects from him and move on to another user. You only stay connected to that node and download from him if he has the file you're looking for.

the sum it all up, I'm connected to my cluster of share users on my node list and my seeders are connected to their own cluster...but nobody from either cluster intersect, so my share can't find my way to the seeder

people just go download the NodeRefresh plugin..it will automatically update your node list from a number of sources..

For what you said to make any sense YOU would have had to not be online for a long time. I've gone for months without updating the nodelist, but inevitably someone will still be active on that list, when you connect to that person you get updated nodes from them. Is this not correct?

Then what does it matter whether or not you get an updated list from the site? There are aways some people connected to the network and their lists will be up to date.

to make it simple to understand the different.
example:
there's range IP(1-10) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
as u know not all ip is in used maybe the IP that use share is IP 10 only.
so if u not using updated nodes list , share will start searching from IP 1 until 10 (this process may take hours)
while using updated not list , share start search from IP 10 .
as u see this only effect if u not using share for few days. if u using all the time , u no need to update list since your list already up to date by it self.

As I said, normally you can be offline for days and your list will still be usable. If you have 100 nodes on your list, probably 2 have static IP and they can still provide you with the updated list. But in this case, when the database is DOWN. The 2 people with the static IP doesn't get an updated list neither, so even if you connect to them, you won't get any new nodes.

share doesn't search through random IP ranges...IPs has 256 x 256 x 256 x 256 possibilities x share is connected on 1 out of thousands of port on your computer. Share only relies on the small list of nodes saved. I set my node limit to 10000, so I will have 10,000 nodes to go through...if you set your node limit to 100, if those 100 are outdated, that's it...

hello, i've been downloading this .iso file for a couple days now, it was downloading perfectly fine until it reached 96.3% mark, even though the task tab says im downloading the file, the size doesn't seem to change at all. there's file that store hashing of our current download files corrupted/missing . when u run share , it generate new ones, this cause all turn red due to verify fail .

this can happen when share run encounter error .

Maybe you have changed your system date to an earlier date and unadvisedly run Share. It would just kill all your downloads. There's no way back, you have to start over every download, from zero.

you have to set port correctly,which allows share to import/export files efficientry.
if you keep on closing port,your pc will be a bottle-neck in the network.
this is because share set your pc apart from the network automaticaly.

I just recently got a hold of Winny (v2.0b6.6, if it matters), and a list of nodes, but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to p2p programs, so it's not much of a surprise to me that I can't figure it out.
All the nodes under the Node tab say "Wait." Occasionally one node will show up, SearchLink, but it disappears a couple of seconds later.
I'm completely lost. I believe I've forwarded the ports correctly (I'm behind a router), but that could be wrong too.

Any help is appreciated. I'd really like to get this working.

I have to say, after wrapping my brain around how this works, it's awesome for getting that ever-so-hard-to-find japanese music that I've wanted, but this isn't a thread about praise lol. Anyway, this isn't a major issue, just more a curiousity, at various points share will just lock up completely for a few seconds and then continue to function normally. As far as my understanding has gone in using share thus far, the more vague a keyword used, the more efficient it will be, since it will just pull all the nodes matching that key. So, DVDISO will only pull nodes with that as their keys, or something expanding on it, while DVD will pull DVD as a match text. Looking for specific files is what the search dialog is for.

Oh, I thought I should note that the filename for the Forced File Converter is "[Share Plugin] [PDK9] ForcedFileConverter_0.4.zip" so it shouldn't be a problem with my unicode, I usually don't have problems decompressing JPN files

no idea what it call. I use norton to scan the file but fail to recognize it as virus.
all i did is just want to preview a partial of anime i want to download to verify whether it is fake or not . the file is an exe (using a trick very long name to cover and change icon to video icon even thoughit's application in explore) . even though it's partial only , the virus still able to run.

it not only change all files in share folder to jpg, I found it also copy it self out side(manual search and found) . since norton fail to identify it , I have no choice to format and reinstall my pc. I try to ask few friends to scan using they anti virus (McAfee ,Kaspersky, AVG) to see whether any of them identify it , the result is none .

even though so the share still able to run i stop it then it will give me error (no doubt since all share files turn into jpg)

They can now track who has a full copy of a certain file with a special tool, but afaik not the original source (first copy) uploader of the file. I think it's unlikely that the japanese companies will go after foreign users but one can never be 100% sure of course.

The problem with share is due to the diffuse uploads, your share client could have downloaded a file to your cache diffusely without your knowledge. So you could be sharing an illegal or sensitive file without your knowledge, just like webhostings and file upload sites allows you to upload any file, should they be held responsible for your actions if they didn't know they were sharing illegal files?

Anyway, if you get caught the best is to claim you were unaware of any such activity, or that you had a virus, some backdoor or something that you removed. Simply claim you are innocent, never say you are guilty.

That tool is public and all it does it acts as a fake node and displays the what it receives from clients - which are files, hence it is able to find out in mass - the ip of which is sharing file(s) on the share network.

I am a little bit confused as to why this tool is anything new. Granted, it was clever of them to spoof a node. But couldn't I get the similar information by downloading the files from Share and writing down the IP address of everyone I receive data from? It is impossible for a computer to connect to another without knowing the other's IP address, unless the data is sent via proxy. Since Share doesn't route data through a proxy, I can know the IP address of everyone I connect to.

So unless I'm mistaken, Share has never been anonymous and I am completely confused as to why people call it that.

does anyone know how to make Share work with a proxy?

Sockscap make Share slow down a lot, so I had to switch to OpenVPN. It works but it won't download anything (left it for days). It connects to nodes fine, I can query stuffs (and get results), but when I add it to download, it won't download anything at all.

The log gets my external IP (the proxy IP) correctly, and port XYZ on the proxy is routed to port XYZ on my machine as well (but my machine will see it as connecting from localhost)

What is the problem? And how can I resolve this?

I'd never had any problems with Share... Until now.
Some days ago I noticed that I didn't get any new search results and the download speed wasn't the best (I can live with the speed side issue).

Im pretty sure this isn't the case but it seems like alot of user, all of the sudden stopped using Share.

So my question is: Do you guys have any of this problems? If so, any clue whats going on?

How to make filters work?

I downloaded a fake file, went to queries, added to filter, checking both options, deleted the fake file from cache and DB, went to trigger and enabled "Apply filters", and Share downloaded the same hash in the filter, again!

How did you make the filter? One way would be to right click on the fake file and add filter that way. Then go to the filter menu and edit that filter so that the only thing filled in is the hash and have both options checked.

Could it be that your trigger already put the file back into download queue before you told the trigger to apply filters? You're sure it's the same hash? Lots of fake files out there with same file names but different hashes.

This is indeed strange. Share seems to be non-responding.
Almost all nodes I had in my list were turning red.
After I deleted them, restarted Share and added a few new nodes from the http://www.stereoz.net/p2p/ site.....situation seems to stay the same. Share does seem to mess up my connection though.

After a few minutes of Share running, I can't browse properly(Firefox) and bittorrent annoucnes(utorrent) are giving timeouts. Im suspecting that somehow Share is messing up my router but this behaviour also seems new.

Anyone have a clue to solve these issues?

@600. I've got the same problem. But I think it might have been caused by my "disk space running out" either on/in the cached or download folders. Now those files have now turned into dark blue and nothing happends even if trying to convert them (data block corrupted). But this I think is more related to that it still needed to wait for some files to be fully finnished (orange color).

I also don't know if the above problem has to do with some "ERROR: Existing file error" message I founded in the Log. Eithers its this or a combination of both problems.

Anyway, if anybody have similar problems plz advice us how to get over this step.

Also, I stopped using Share and started using Perfect Dark.

I am very new to this and while the setup of Winny was an instant success, I don't seem to get Share to run though.

All ports are forwarded properly (Rooter&Firewall), in a similar fashion to Winny and my Bittorrent client, which work properly. In Share I see a lot of downloadable files and available nodes but whenever one is tested it goes into Sleep mode, i.e. never connects. The info column shows almost equal ratios between connection attempts and failures.

What else might be missing aside from through ports that could cause this? I had Share run for a week now and never got a download connection, while Winny managed 26 GB down and 12 GB up in the same time. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks!

How do you delete things from the cache? I right-clicked on the file name and chose the delete from cache option, but it didn't immediately clear the hard drive space. Is there something I can do to encourage Share to hurry up and delete the file? My hard drive only has 70 MB left!

THe best way to delete your cache is to move completed items to a share folder and press the Quick Check button under the folders tab.

To delete incomplete cache, try highlighting the file and hitting ctrl+del. The menu function seems broken.

Hi! I'm a noob with share and just started using it a couple days ago. At first everything worked just fine, I managed to download a file that I wanted (eventhough the connection is slow). I understand that node connection can be pretty erratic but it will connect eventually. However, this time around the node has been searching for connection for almost a day now and still can't be connected. FYI, I'm uploading a file at the same time. Hi there Share gurus. :)Here goes my problem: Share used to run smoothly for months then all of a sudden it stopped working. Search does function and I get tons of results but nothing can be uploaded or downloaded - all downloads are stuck at "initializing". No port errors - or any other errors, for that matter - it's just stalled. Since eMule, BitTorrent and such all work like a charm, I assume it can't be my ISP. And I didn't install any new firewall or similar software.

I tried a clean reinstall of Share (it helped before) but it's all the same: some data are being transferred and there are search results but no upload/download. :(

Recently Share started locking up ("Not responding" in task manager).
I thought it may be something with corrupted files so I downloaded a new copy into a new location and it was good. For a day. Then it started locking up again.

At first I thought it was because of the new firewall (Outpost), but it also happens when the firewall is not running.

This is normal: files are uploaded only once to nearest/random nodes, and after they're uploaded (Diffusion), they dissapear from Upload tab list. So if you're using Share since a while, it's normal to see such tab empty, since all your shared files are now floating around the caches of random nodes on the net.

This happens if you're on a LAN, behind a router/firewall. I've experienced the same issue on my university network (Share always disconnect due to "Port Error"), so if you're using a external firewall or router, you may need to open some ports there. If you're directly connected to Internet, check if your ISP is not blocking any port, or worse, blocking/throttling P2P traffic (this is a pain in the ass, and although Share traffic is crypted, some ISPs cut such users for save bandwidth)

BTW: it's a bad idea to run Share in your university computer lab... unless you're checking the connection each 30 seconds :(

I've been having a problem recently with files that I've download is unable to be open with winrar or 7zip. It gives me a "This file is either in unknown format or damaged". Since there is no way to know which file is which (filenames on cache files are hashes, and your cache surely contains your downloads, plus downloads/uploads from other people), you could end deleting your downloads! See the warning at http://uguu.org/share/

Unfortunately, this is very common on Share recently: i also have a bunch of files (episodes of the same series) that are stuck at 98-99% since a few MONTHS :(

If your files are old (2003 is ANCIENT on these networks), they run the risk of being quickly deleted from caches due to low/no demand. The files should be damn popular for not being deleted! (example: Galaxy Angel, even the first season can be downloaded in just one week, despite being from 2001).

It seems that you're looking for a music video DVD, and these things are not very popular, compared with music CDs and anime RAWs, so the complete file may have been deleted from the network due to lack of requests... creating incomplete files that will NEVER finish download...

It's just a theory, but it could be a valid one...

So I just finally decided to start using share. I followed through uguu's guide and have it set up just like that, and now I'm at a loss. What exactly am I supposed to do after making the folders? I've got one for each type, I've added a few clusters, so what now? I've tried to search for items, but when I do, it just opens up the query tab and does nothing but display the search words.

Or am I just missing something stupidly obvious like a massive "WORK" button?

lol... I turned my clock back 1 hour and the problem went away. I'm in Chicago (central time zone). It's possible that Share checks your location against your system time, but has some bug with daylight savings

I have a problem with Share since 2 days. I need to open ports everymoment that I want to use it. Dont know why, seems that router configuration of share open ports is not working correctly by any reason that I cant understand.
The problem is that share start correctly, without any error message, but since 1 minut it goes to 0 kb/s download / upload.
Nodes all are time changing by yellow/orange colors but seems that is not searching anything :(
What should I do?

I installed Share EX2 on Windows XP SP2. When I first tried to run it, I got a "Runtime error 0 at 0049B23D," but if I restarted Windows, I could usually open Share. Starting yesterday, I just get the same error even after a restart. I have Remote Procedure Call and Protected Storage services on Automatic, and they are started. I ran a memory check using MemTest86+, but it didn't find any errors. Windows has installed a couple of updates lately. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I could try next?

I figured out the problem. Either my firewall or my anti-virus was loading into memory first, and keeping Share EX2 from loading. I unticked them in msconfig, restarted, and got right into Share. By the way, is Serika's site down? Does anyone know where he is or where to find a mirror?

Clusters don't matter that much. Add the type of file you are searching for ドラマ, 邦画, 動画, avi, DVDISO or whatever. Imitate the cluster words you see in the Nodes window.

Try searching sharedb.info for triggers, or run a DB-only trigger to add more hashes to your DB. If you do a search with nothing in your DB, you won't get many results.

Clusters help Share find other nodes (i.e. users on Share) who have similar interests to yours.

If you are using an old nodes list, it is possible you are not connected to anything, but if you have at least one node that stays connected for a minute or more, Share is just scanning all the nodes it finds for whatever triggers you have set up.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my Share since 2 days ago (when it previously had no problem at all). For some reason, my downloads will reach "1" in order, and then just stuck there without initiate downloading. At first I thought there was something wrong with my port setting, which I've resetted to a different port on my router, but the problem is still remained. On the Nodes screen, if you are getting Search, Share and Diffuse nodes under type, then you are connected to the network, and just have to wait in queue. If you aren't getting these node types, then probably you should check your firewall and/or router to see if you have the appropriate ports open. Try switching to different ports on both Share and your firewall/router to see if that helps.

Triggers are extremely useful when you're looking for rare files, when you know EXACTLY what you want to download, or when you want to gather results about every single file that exists for certain topic (let's say: from fanart/fanfics to complete DVD ISOs from certain anime/videogame)

When used wisely, triggers can save your ass. Simple!

  • If you already know the hash and the filename, simply create a trigger for it, and Share will download it for you.
  • Are you looking for rare stuff? (obscure CDs, really old programs, or creditless openings/endings from anime series) Then set a trigger for it, specifying what class of files do you want. After you see the results, simply pick the ones that you want to download.

And about the filters: check out http://uguu.org/share/ => there are some useful info about filtering spam and such stuff.

Two of my files are currently at 23% and 56.7% respectively. But the problem occured when I added a new download yesterday and since then, it won't even resume the previous downloads although the new download was completed. What should I do now? I installed this plugin already a few days ago, but I can not force it work. By Japanese Manual is recommended news client Outlook Express, I configured as it is written in Japanese manual. But they (both Outlook and SNNTP together) did not plough, even can not download list of newsgroups. Outlook returns different error codes, returned by server. I can not understand, what it needs. All configured as recommended:
server localhost, port 119 by default. "Up" and "Dat" folders in the plug-in"s directory was created automatically during installation and in a folder "Dat" even was loaded during installation the list of titles of newsgroups (but not from the network, and from unpacking plugin itself). But nothing works.
Have you worked with this plugin? If so, help me please, give advice? Any ideas!

I don't know if Share does "substring matching" when checking for cluster words (in other words: "DVD ISO DVDRIP" is the same cluseter as "DVDISO", because it contains "DVD" and "ISO").

Most likely it does not, so it's a bad idea to do that (you will end with isolated/wasted clusters). However, i've seen that lots of people love to create clusters with lots of words instead of a single word, so i might be wrong on this one...

Experiment with it, but i recommend anyway to stay with one word (name) per cluster.

This "bug" seems to be harmless, and should not affect the tool (I also get that log line in each Share boot, but CacheDump works fine for me).

For use CacheDump, go to a query, locate the desired file, and right-click it, then select "CacheDump". The rest is straightforward..

i really doubt that your ISP limit your share download speed. i will bet that they never even heard of share at all.

My ISP (Cantv.net, Venezuela) also started recently to cap my upload too :( Just dropped from rock-solid 50KB/s to unstable 10KB/s (Share barely works with that).

Remember, P2P is the biggest enemy of ISPs today, don't matter what program do you use, or which files do you download (legal or not).

Inside Japan, Share is at the tail of the top-10 most used P2P apps. Outside there, it's almost unknown...

my ISP does that on BT connection but share work fine (my guess is because share encrypt the data) .

if it really happen ,that mean your ISP probably only allow HTTP/https,FTP protocol and caps all others type of protocol . that is pretty dare action done by your ISP.

Your database may be corrupt. This can happen if you close Share as soon as you open it (while it's loading the database), OR, in extreme cases, you may be experiencing harddrive failures.

It worked like 2 weeks ago perfectly. But now, i update my node list and get on, my upload and download isn't moving, there is no change in port. Nodelist keep connect and test servers and eventually after 4-5 min it stop completely. No errors on log too.

the caches were downloaded, and "converted", but when i mouse over the download folder, it says empty and when i right clicked the files, it shows only 5~6 options, without copy, move all those. and when i double click it, nothing comes out.

Seems that the files are corrupt... can you see the file size on the videos? Is there enough free Disk Space on your HD? Did you check the Share Log?

can someone explain exactly wut the cash is. i mean i know i need it to download and upload right? but mines just getting huge, like 30 gigs, and wuts the difference on the status tab where if u hide cash it's grey but show cash shows it almost all blue but the number is still like 0/3000
