In this thread you can get general support for Winny.

I can't figure out just what I'm sharing on Winny. I've looked at the options and they don't seem to allow you to specify a share directory. But when I look at my upload speed it says 30KB/s. So what am I sharing?
Even if you don't specify your upload folder you still have to participate in diffused uploading.
You are sharing cache of things downloaded from the Winny network. Just relax, it's not uploading the whole contents of your HDD or something messed up like that.
Hi guys,I keep getting key loss errors when people try to connect with me.I'd say almost 65% to 75% of the time this happens, and it's getting kind of annoying. Is there something wrong that I'm doing,or with my connection?I also use Share and I don't have any problems with that. Thanks in advance for any replies
is there any point of using winny?
Well,if the files are only available on Winny, then yes, which is why I'm using it now
Hi to all,
I'm trying to use winny, but when i paste Japanese text from web sites into Winny Search, the Japanese text is trasformed into ????.
How can i resolve this?
Thank you
I haven't figured out how to solve that problem, but I have noticed that it depends on which program you cut-and-paste from. Sometimes it actually helps to paste the text into a third program, and cut it from there before pasting into Winny.
It is quite mysterious.
first click on the window you want to copy the text from, change the language to japanese BEFORE you copy iy, should work without any problem
hey i can't find any updated nodes list please can any oe gives me a list or a link for it
How do you delete files from your cache in Winny? Can you manually delete it with Explorer?
Winny error: http://tinypic.com/ezh07k.gif
It only happens recently, winny would either gives the above error or occupy 99% of my cpu and halt. (no matter what version I use, from b66 , b7.1, b7.26)
Not sure is it related to connection problem as never succeeded in upload or download ever since this problem occur. But it used to work fine before.
Though I'm sure this is Wine's fault, but it seems like the list text is drawn twice in different spots, sometimes backwards. I'm using the latest stable build and the version of winny on the title bar. Anyone found a solution to this problem? I've seen a screenshot on a perfect version, which I'm sure that user was using a real windows partition for Wine.

dude holy shit, how do you get winny to work in wine?
i tried a couple years ago on wine, but it was still too gay back then.
Use either CVS or 9.0+ and grab a copy of msgothic. That's all that's really needed, and it seems that that version is the only one that will connect to nodes.
i use winny and share now for a week and i managed to get them to work.
i find winny very inconvenient to share and this for different reasons.
unlike share winny don't have triggers and thus searching become really difficult coz you have to :be patient, and more important to monitor your queries tabs if you are too slow at activating the downloading of the files you are interested in you get a message (in jap) telling you that the link to those files have been cut.
so my question is; is there some patch or plugins resolving this problem?
and unlike share winny don't have a clusters tab and thus resulting you to play some puzzle game to search for a file (and this because the querie become itself a cluster connecting you to the node related, winny allow only 3 cluster and i wonder if it use the last three or something else..).
so why not starting a board for winny (for share also)specialized in sharing queries techniques?
winny also have a less important disandvatage it save the files
in euc encoding share do it in unicode so windows jap update do not have to be installed.
so do you know of some application converting between the encodings or is there some prog doing the conversion on the fly i mean automatically from the clipboard?
i suggest you read the winny guide again, you can have triggers no problem (which are called download rules in the guide), as well as clusters (up to 3 and are the same as the first 3 download rules that you define prefixed with "*", not the ones that are there because they got added from the queries prefixed with ":", just set the min size to 4096mb to prevent downloading them).
how do i delete the file from the cache? same as 12!!!
where do i find it? (in my computer)
nevermind, thanks man!
ah, it doesn't works. I downloaded 2 videos and both are not working!
I can't get winny to keep nodes. They keep switching or stop working.
It keeps saying port error. The downloads don't work, too...
I think I need to configure my router to some ports but I don't know what numbers to input.
I looked everywhere for any port numbers i could try but I found nothing. Why isn't it working??
Please someone help. :(
Hey i just downloaded WinNY and i try searching and nothing pulls up, ive try this software 6 or 7 times and i still cant cant search for files nor download.
I've got an interesting problem...
Winny2b66 works just fine, and all, but Winny2p_b726_000 I can't even get to display and search results.
For Winny2p_b726_000, I tried setting it to the same port (so my router should forward correctly), the same noderef.txt, and so forth as the previous version, yet it got no results. It did seem to be attempting to connect to nodes, though.
Any ideas? Is Winny2p_b726_000 even a good version to use? I ask because it recommends me upgrade from my (working) version.
for some reason, I can't convert the file by using WinnyCacheInfo (my download is 100%). can anyone help me?

I assume the longer piece of data is the node, or maybe it's hash. Anyone with experience able to assist?
I assume it's for WinNY (due to the "ny") but I don't want to go through the hassle of translating the whole thing, because it isn't the focus

How to go about entering into WinNY, for example.
"117,786,516" "1d0ab4204d6ba6d59c3f2e4bbf969d78"
The first part is the size of that file, the second part is the hash for it. And yes it's a hash for Winny, as to how to download it study this site http://www.uguu.org/winny/

i'm trying to use Winny with Virtual PC 6 but i get an error window, something like "winny.exe has generated an error" .... etc. please help me
Every once in a while Winny starts downloading random files that don't appear in my Task window (but do register as a download slot). It's usually some random porn movie. Any way to stop this?
That's called diffused downloading and there is not much you could do about it.
I'm behind a NAT router, but I have access to port forwarding. I've gotten the ports all forwarded and the router and Winny are both on the same "page", but there's still a problem. I can connect to nodes, but only to UPLOAD to them, very very slowly at that (no more than 5KB/s), and no more than two nodes at a time. Also, with the nodes that I connect to, there is no cluster information at all. What's going on?
Previous poster again. Not only am I behind a NAT router, but I'm also on a PPPoE connection and thus have a dynamic IP. Do I need to make use of the DDNS option, also? I've tried it, but I'm not really sure what it's after.
#45/46 here. Seems I fixed my problem: I was using the unofficial Winnyp 2.0b7.26, which doesn't even have a network to connect to! Now that I'm using the official 2.0b7.1, everything is working okay. Whoops!
I'm running the TCP version of Share and have a few ISO images sitting around missing only a couple of parts.
Could running the UDP version against the TCP cache folder maybe help me complete them?
Is there a large difference in the content on the two versions?
Has anyone been getting a bunch of disconnects lately? Before I could leave WinNY running for several days straight, but recently every time I leave it running for more than 30-60 minutes I get a port error and it disconnects. Only thing I think that's overly different is I'm now using 7.1.
I have the appropriate 2 ports forwarded to my machine on my DSL Modem, both TCP and UDP.
I am wondering if some trolls have used the WinNY book to create fake clients that just send error messages back to anyone connecting to them. I could see people doing the same stupid stuff on NY that they tried on MX.
Earlier today, as well, I closed and reopened WinNY to fix this, and it popped up something mentioning my download and cache folders. When I hit no to get rid of the windows, I discovered it deleted everything in my WinNY folder except for winny.exe and winny.ini.
Anyway, I don't think my DSL Modem has DMZ zone, so I'm kinda low on options, unless I'm missing a port to open. My File port is 9533 and my BBS port is 22658.
If anything, the static IP of your router probably changed, as something similiar happened to me a few days ago.
try start>run>cmd
then at the command prompt type
ipconfig /all
then you will see what the correct IP is for your router
192.168.1.XXXX
It doesn't matter about BBS port unless you visit the BBSs in winny, which is not a smart thing as that is how cops busted people in Japan by tracking them down by the threads they started. Reguardless, it will not affect the use of winny for file sharing.
Anyway, if you don't use a router than I guess this isn't apropos. I had no choice but to use a router as my cable ISP wouldn't stay connected in share and winny via a direct connection.
Either way, you should check your configuration settings to see what is wrong http://www.portforward.com/
I'm trying to configure my router's port using port forwarding and i want to know wats the best port range to input for bettter performance for winny?
No such thing, just forward a port that is not used by another program yet, usually the high range 30000+ is used because those ports are usually free.
will high range like 30000 give me a better performance
No, unless your ISP blocks ports (they don't usually block ports in the higher range), 30000+ ports are not used by the system and thus is usually recommended so that there would be no port conflicts.
so try the port range 30000 to what
cause i need another port value
Doesn't matter could be 30000-50000 if you're nut enough, because WinNY uses only 1 port so it's not necessary to open a range of ports.
can u explain why LAN provides faster dl speed compared to wireless when using winny
Is it normal to not be able to connect to a lot of people? I'd estimate more than 75% of my connections fail on Japanese p2p. In Winny I see a lot of "key lost ni yoru -something- error" or something like 'connection error/timed out', etc.
It's really annoying, especially for rare files.
Yes,this appears to be "normal" for Winny, and is unfortunately its biggest downfall. It's too bad no one has fixed it or made it better,Winny would really kick ass if you could actually stay connected more than 25% of the time :P
Hi, I'm a complete newbie to this kind of p2p filesharing, so sorry if I ask really dumb questions. From someone I got an English version of Winny, but if I run that, it always just says "please update your version". So I got a newer version, Winny2p_b726_000. But my system can't display japanese system text, meaning all the buttons are just question marks. This in itself never was a problem - what is a problem is that none of the buttons seem to function, i.e. nothing happens when I press them. Also, there's no node reference included in this version, although I was under the impression I'd need one... can anyone help me?

Had some luck with Winny v2.0b7.1 using wine 0.9.11.
Where do I download Winny?
I have Share installed, can I get it from there? Which means, does anybody know of a reliable ID from which to get Winny binaries?
Sorry, stupid question.
I found everything here, English patch included:
www.zeropaid.com/news/4376/Winny+2b66+-+English+Version
I've repeatedly found this ~900kB exe file disguised as manga on Winny. There's even a large, hidden thumb.db file included in the rar file to make it match the size of a manga chapter. I've accidentally run the exe file before (it has a folder icon so you think it's a folder) and now I'm worried.
I get nothing on virus checks and I've already submitted the file to various malware companies and one replied telling me it wasn't malicious.
But if it's not malicious, why do I see this file on Winny all the time? Why is it completely disguised as a manga chapter with a folder icon and hidden inflated thumb.db file? Anyone else see this file or know anything about it?
Update. Kapersky identified the file I was talking about as a trojan on 6/05.

Hi, I'm trying to download files from Winny, but everytime I add a file to the download list, it stays connected for 20 seconds, without downloading and then stops and turns red. It says "Key Loss Error" and the file goes off the list. It then appears as partial cache, and I can't download the file again... I've already tried downloading several files, but the same thing happens each time. I use Share too, and it works perfectly, but the files that I need are in Winny... Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.
Please, need help, i need node list for winny 2.66b, i was looking for 2 hours and i didn t find any.

probably the same problem like >>33
The text of the download at first turned into red color, and then after it finished 100% it won't convert into file, no matter how many times I tried manually to convert the file. No error info in Winny log though. WinnyCacheInfo also failed to convert the file while it can convert other files that were convertible normally in Winny.
What is the problem here?
winnyp 7.28 by lark out!
Hi,
I'm currently using Winny 2.0b7.28 by Lark with Microsoft Applocale. However, I'm unable to search for keywords correctly.
eg,
When I typed "かしまし", Winny would only search for "かし". So I'd have to input "かしましかしまし", for it to revert to "かしまし".
Now, if I know why or how this works, I can pretty much predict how to input my search keywords. But unfortunately, I don't.
Can anyone help? Any tips? Hints? Thanks!
Winny keeps downloading files that I don't queue, and I don't understand why. Is it just trying to build up the cache or something?
@JsjaY: Be sure you're using your IME program correctly. If you don't hit enter after you type the letters, they aren't being written.
why cant someone just rewrite the program to be easy to use and automatically download recent hashes, for us who dont know japanese nor care to switch encodings.
i say it should work fine in a unicode environment like win 2000 or XP and beyond....
>>79
You know what source code is? Also, you shouldn't need to use Winny if you don't know any Japanese. From your requests, it seems like you're only there to leech. The network doesn't need such people.
Winny doesn't work worth shit unless you're contributing to the network, so 79 probably isn't hurting us too much.
And dude, 79, man... WTF? The reason Winny isn't updated anymore is because the Kyoto PD arrested the guy that was updating it. If you want unicode, you need to use Share.
Otherwise, just bite down and switch the encoding, or use w2kxpcjk.
Lately I've been getting a weird error with Winny. It will generally freeze up after 5-15 minutes, taking up 50% of my CPU and the programs goes in 'not responding'. Before it happens everything works fine: nodes connect and I can up and download files. However, when Winny freezes all I can do is shut Winny down and restart.
This happened after I cleared some of my huge cache (I did it through Winny like I always do).
Any ideas how to solve this?
2006-04-21: It has been announced that Winny 2.0b7.1 contains an buffer overflow bug, which can be exploited for remote code execution. Due to legal issues, there will never be an official patch for this bug, and the best fix is to not use Winny..........or something like that ;) So change to winnyp by lark
Which port use or the english verision?
I don't know which port i need to insert in the first port and in bbs port. i have a router.
Can anyone tell me, please?
>>84
It doesn't matter what port you use as long as it isn't being firewalled. If you have a firewall, forward the port.
How do u use hash in winny. and what is it?
I use the the tcp port 5000 for the first and the 5500 for the bbs port. And i forward the port of the firewall.
I use the eng version because in my language i need to use the accents and jap unicode don't leave me to use.
But on log he tell me always Send buffer error, link disconnect.
Can you help me?

Is there a better way to use hashdb?
The information sure looks like its preparced and ready to be plugged into winny (or some other program, was hashdb made for something besides winny?).
So, how can you plug that slug of information into winny?
all you need is basically the hash, everything else like filename or size is just extra, to use the hash create a new download rule for it, read the guide if you don't even know what that is
I also have 2p_b728_000 and am trying to get it working so as not to leave my machine open to anyone who knows how to exploit winny 7.1.
The problem I'm having is that is that I don't seem to connect to any other nodes. Since most of the node listing sites linked to here seem to be not working I took my winny 7.1 node list and renamed it to Noderefp.txt (this was in a newly unzipped and ran copy of 7.28). I setup cluster words and a couple of searches.. to no effect. (and yes I do have port forwarding on)
On checking the node page I can see that It is slowly cycling through my node list (w/ the nodes going magenta), doing something with them for about 20 seconds, and then taking them off the list. So after about an hour I have nothing left.
I added "ver=3" to winnyp.ini under the "[Option]" section of the file, and re-added my nodes. Nothing changed, and I did not connect to any nodes.
Any ideas of how to get ver 7.28 working? Do i have to add the "ver=3" to a different area of the config file?
the "ver=3" doesn't go under [Option] it goes under a section called [Winnyp]. If you don't have that section then you have to add it yourself, or just download a copy of winny that comes with a proper .ini file.
>>98
Sweet, got it up and running, thanks. Afterwards I checked the readme.txt and saw the same thing, amazing what happens when you read the documentation :p
>>96
I know how to use the hash. It just strikes me as really unlikely that the makers of that site would have you select the entire blob of text and make you select the parts you want from inside a comma separated list if the only things you would want out of it would be, mostly the hash, but maybe the trip or filename, if you were just going to copy that stuff out manually they shoulda stuck that info in a table so you can select it easier.
So there's probably a better way to use it.
Well it's true that you can manually add them to the download.txt file in your WinNY folder as well, I just find it quicker and more convenient to add a download rule using the hash, which basically has all the information you need to get the file, like I wrote earlier everything else is just extra information so you know what you're getting, the program only needs the hash.
Well, true it only needs the hash, but It'd sure be nice to be able to know what that specific hash is for, especially after you go ahead and add thirty of them. And what about when you have a hash thats been lingering around for a month without getting downloaded?
Thanks for the download.txt file info.
Hi, I hope you'll undersand me: English is not my language. Since one week, I can't download nothing. Can you?
I've changed the nodes list to version 7.21, because 7.28's nodes web is down and I also change in "Winnyp.ini.txt" ver=0 to ver=3. But nothing.
Do you know what's wrong?
My winny connects to nodes fine and displays Japanese on the menus. But inside the window where the files are listed, the Japanese just turns up garbage. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Also, does anybody know where I can find Winny 7.1? Best I could find was 2b66 unless it doesn't matter.
I have a file that's completed, but I couldn't find the completed file in the "download" directory, where is it?
anyone know what's my problem?
>>108
I think your cache folder is running out of space. Clear a few MB off the HDD if you want Winny to work again.
So has it ever been explained here why "key lost" happens? I'm still using b7.1 btw.
>>110
My opinions biased probably, but I tend to think b7.1 is the best one, so there's nothing wrong with your version.
I always figured the key lost error just meant the node disconnected before you could download the key...
Anyone having problems with Winny recently? A few days ago Winny hung/froze my computer for several minutes, and then when my pc started working again my antivirus software found that a Trojan variant of formatall had been downloaded into my Winny cache folder.
Today, Winny hung/froze my computer for a few minutes AGAIN. There was no malware detected, but when my computer returned to normal I saw in my bandwidth limiter that Winny had just been uploading at a very fast speed, like 500KB which is probably an error because my connection can't upload faster than around 150KB. But for sure something was getting uploaded.
Just curious if I'm the only one experiencing these issues recently.
If Winny is uploading at a very fast speed, this means it is uploading the antinny virus. The virus is a small file, but it pretends to be a large one, so when it uploads, Winny thinks it is uploading very fast.
The virus is usually in an ZIP file from my experience. Never open ZIP, RAR, or EXE files from Winny without scanning them for viruses first. Most virus scanners have antinny in their definitions.

I can't seem to connect to any nodes longer than about 30 seconds! Does anyone know what might be the matter? I have all current nodes, all added correctly. I'm not getting any errors in the log and I'm not behind a firewall of any kind. I've been looking around the internet for quite a while and still can't figure out the reason for my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I recently installed window vista. I can run Share but not winny on vista. I have the same problem as described in a previous post by KITA. But that post was four months old, anyone know if people have found a solution for this problem yet?
I don't get it. Whenever I explicitly specify ports for Winny to use (and forward them on the router), it will randomize them on the next start to non-forwarded ports and thus fall to Port0 setting.
If I just forward Winny's randomly chosen ports, it works just fine. What gives?
Recently I'm downloading files which are ZIP, in RAR archive (with password), ZIPped again. There are HTML file with details about the passwirds, which leads to some sort of money game site (gendama). And although I tried following the instruction, the password doesn't seem to work.
Anyone know the password to extract it ?

anyone can translate this for me, please?
For reading Japanese in Winny, I tried using apploc.msi from MS. It doesn't work well, most characters are still unreadable. Asian characters are already installed (winxp).
Why is this?
Also, in the menu for starting an application, there is a section called "Arguments". What needs to be filled in here?
about the translation, http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5258/warningdh0.png, if I quickly translate it: not enough space for cache, please make some room for it in folder (something like this).
Does anyone have trouble with japanese keyworded searches in winny b7.28 ?
It cuts every japanese keyworded search to two letters, and if i search on that keyword again it cuts it to a single letter... and I have no idea why. I'm running it on winXP using applocale and used b66 without any trouble before.
Hi, I've just downloaded Winny and I realised that the Japanese characters can't be displayed in most of the fields. Can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem here. I'm also using b7.28, with XP and applocale. And when I try to type japanese with IME it turns out garbage. :O
My downloads are all stopping at 2,031,616 Bytes. This seems to be a common issue.
Can someone translate the related Answer in this FAQ?
It looks like the files are virus infected. If I'm reading it correctly you probably have Norton AV installed and it's scan of the cache picked up a virus.
If you REALLY want to chance it, delete the current cache for the problem files, turn off your AV's active scanning and try again. I wouldn't do this myself.
just change ur system to locale japanese, evry pb will be solved !

Well I found out that if the text in the search is cut off you can usually add some extra characters to the end like asdf and it will cut off less. Sometimes it will keep those extra characters or not enough and in those cases just add more or less random characters.
can i just copy the nodes from one file and paste into another noderef file to make a new one?
I have a 92.2% rate of Disconnection due to "key lost" and I cannot download for shit. Is there something I can do to fix this massive key loss? Or are all the Japanese blocking Western IP addresses from downloading or something? They can download from me just fine which is really frustrating.

Had the same problem with you, and there are more and more of such files. This is really getting frustrating.
No one in this whole tree of posts even post about "how to get stable nodes" for winyp.
It seem i can only get 2 node going at all time. Is this even normal?
hi...
i'm new winny user and i've read the guide
but i still have a question
to add new site i should modify Noderef.txt right ?
let say i want to download something from hashsb, sharedb, and 2ch...
but the node only accept specified format(encrypted address, etc)
now how do i know encrypted address of those sites ?
