I read badly the japanese: is "Perfect Dark" the new version of Share (share ex3) or it's totaly different ?
Because i read that the name "share" is a "tentative name" for this program ....so "Perfect dark" could be the true name for 'share ex3' (???)

It's another project.. share is dead.
I just downloaded this program. It is similar to share, but it is not Share and it is not WinNY. It seems to be working fine. All I had to do was give it some node addresses and it connected to a bunch of users.
Does anyone know how to change the font size in the search and download tabs? It is too small and I cannot read it well.

Using it is pretty straight forward. You have to put in some settings for stuff like where your download folder is and give it some nodes to start with (click "IP Address/Port Add") and that's it. The readme file has info on what some of the strange words mean. For example, they call the cache "unity," and they've got something called a "central dogma master." I forgot what that one is.
I'm surprised how well this works. Does anyone know how large the user base is?

What do the ギャザー and ボード tabs do? I don't know what those words mean...
Ok, so I unzipped it. Added the nodes, set the download and 'unity' folder. It still says offline, so how dow I connect? Also, how do you add folders and files to share?

For me, it went online as soon as I added nodes; I never pushed a "go online" button or anything. I don't know what you did wrong.
Probably the "File Upload" (fairu o appuroodo) button will let you share stuff. I don't know how important that is. As soon as I got connected, pd started downloading stuff to my cache/unity and I expect it'll share that stuff. If you wanna upload something unique, I'd start by reading the "Flow" and uploading the stuff people are requesting.

I'm getting the font shit too with Windows 2000 Pro. Fortunately (in the latest version only?) you can work around it by single-clicking files, which makes the filename show full-size in a text box along the top (which you can also copy-paste from into EDICT or whatever).
Remember to rate files after you finish downloading them, on the 完了 tab. Right-click a file and choose (G) for high-quality, (N) for average, or (B) for fake/mislabeled/corrupt/virus-infected. Everyone's feedback translates into a positive or negative integer in the 評価 column on the search and download tabs.

Has anyone else noticed really high CPU usage with this program? I've noticed 50~60% CPU usage on a e6300 Core2Duo just on idle.

PD is such a resource hog.....
For some reason, whenever I turn on Perfect Dark, all my green icons in µTorrent start turning red.
Also, Firefox gets reallt slow, browsing gets really slow. My router should be able to handle it, my connection seems stable even when its tracking 980 TCP connections...
Anyone know what could be causing this?
Is it my machine that's slowing down? Or only my connection?

in order to fix the font size problem, you need the "Meiryo" font from windows vista. this will solve the problem. why some people get small font sizes and why some others dont have this issue, is a fucking mystery. however, meiryo will bring your relief

You just aren't trying hard enough. While Share doesn't work, WinNY works perfectly fine. I've been using it for around a year.

Why is Winny Slow? with Share I get decent speeds but Winny goes about ~10k :(
in winny, only ppl who have complete files are uploaders, in share ppl who have only one piece of the file you need can upload it to you

For anyone with the font problem without the meiryo font:
Perfect Dark created a /mutagen/ subdirectory with visual.txt inside. Open up visual.txt and you should be able to change various GUI things such as font sizes and colors.

Is PD at all related to Freenet? It seems to have a lot of similarities - a local cache which is managed by the program (and no way to delete specific files); huge resource hog; must be "seeded" with an initial node list; encrypted connections, etc, etc.
Seems like there's a lot of reinventing the wheel and borrowing of ideas going on, but that probably just a good thing if it means we can have better/more secure programs.

Hey, I can search and select files to download but they never start. I've heard that you must be uploading files too, is this true? Can you use the program with a connection slower than 100KB/s up as long as you don't set the cap lower than that?

PD just idles. it says "perfect dark is online." but neither upload nor download anything. additionaly, when i try to add a file to upload, it just gives me a box with some moonspeak that i don't understand and unables me to correctly upload something. any ideas?
What is your upload- or download speed? I'd guess the first ?? KB/s on the screen and in your status bar is download, and the next one upload. But in experience it seems to be the other way around.

The topmost xxx KB/s is a global...something.
The 2 beneath that and next to eachother both contain "速度" or "sokudo", apparantly meaning speed/velocity.
The left one also contains "送信" or "soushin" meaning sending side/entity.
The right one also contains "受信" or "jushin" meaning receiving side/entity.
I'll let you do the math.
I have no idea how to determine the other kanji like the one for the global(download?) limit and 2 bytebounters beneath the speed limits.

I'm trying to use Perfect Dark with Wine, but while Japanese text in the dialog boxes (those with gray background...) displays fine, it doesn't display anywhere else on the GUI. This makes it quite useless for searching... how to fix it?
I also have the same problem, (i got ">"s instead of Japanase text). PD is somehow usable: simply write your query somewhere (i.e. copy from your webbrowser), paste it on PD search box (you will still see ">"s), and hit "Enter". Next time, when you select your query, you will see the japanase letters at the top of the window (just below the title bar)
Ah, you will need "MS PGothic" font, grab it from any Windows box (msgothic.ttf), and place it in your Wine fonts dir (~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/), and edit "visual.txt" under "mutagen" directory (first generate it by clicking "write mutagen" on Settings)
I have that font, but Japanese characters still won't display.
Edit your visual.txt, set the font to "MS PGothic" (watch out for UTF-16! You must keep that encoding!!!), restart PD and enjoy your kanjis :)

I downloaded the automatic 2GB into my unity but it won't stop! Why the hell is it doing this... it makes idling pointless if it's going to fill up my damn HD while I'm not at my PC >.>
That's the way of how those networks work. You can limit the unity size, but not below 40 GB... So, unless you're using a laptop (or a damn small partition), you should don't worry.
If you're on a desktop: 160 GB drives are dirt cheap, so go and pick one!
If you're on a laptop: Why the hell are you using a laptop hard drive for P2P? That's not healthy for those damn fragile drives :D ... Go and pick an external HD case and a 160 gig drive!

Yea I'm on a desktop but only have a 80GB HD. No way in hell am I using half of that for PD... that's just ridiculous of the program creator. I'm all for sharing but to force me to hold so much on my HD is asinine.
Yup, i have the same opinion.... at least in Share, you can allocate a single GB for the cache, and work with that... but in PD? Remember, even in JAPAN there is a lot of people with SMALL HDs!
In older PD versions, the smallest possible unity size was 20 GB, but somewhere in the way it was raised to 40... way too much for the normal user.

☆ボードの使い方
突然ですが、ボードを実装しました。
ファイルのアップロードと同様にアップロードします。
ファイルは全く同じ条件なら同じ仮身が作成されますが、
ボードはその都度ユニークなボードが作成されるため、全く同じ条件でもボードが複数作成されてしまいます。
ご注意下さい。
検索は検索画面にて行い、ボードをダウンロード登録します。
ボードタブにボードが登録され、しばらくするとボードの情報がダウンロードされます。
ネットワークの状況により、ダウンロードまでかなり時間がかかることがあります。
ボードタブのボードをダブルクリック、または右クリックで表示を選択すると、ボードを表示します。
メッセージの投稿も表示画面で行う事ができます。
ネットワークの性質上、メッセージの投稿が反映されるまでかなり時間がかかると思います。
仮身と同様に、ボードの情報が更新された場合はボードが赤く表示されます。
現在の実装ではボードの寿命は60日間で、それ以降になると自動的に削除されます。
これに関してはボードの運用の様子を見て改善していこうと思います。

Anyone know what download error code - 2'' / ダウンロードエラーコード - 2'' is caused by, and how it can be fixed? It occurs when you finish a download, and the effect is that the file is not written to the download directory.

To everyone with download problems:
Let PD connect to the network and let it sit overnight.
Make sure you select a network speed that comes closest to what you have at home.
Remember that PD will attempt and probably priotize the downloading of 2GB of unity data.
THIS IS ALL CACHE DATA!
This mechanism makes sure the network stays alive.
This is also the same reason why PD doesn't let you set a cache below 40 GB. It creates a darknet of encrypted(?) cache folders of all users combined(?).
Simply put: the more unity data all users combined pool together, the bigger the PD network will be.
So either stop whining or gtfo, there isn't much you can do about it.

If you have an old PD version, it should update by itself, and all PD versions starting with 0.980 have English translations integrated (txt translations was added to v1.0). Then, in the settings dialog, the last combobox allows you to select the language. Pick English, restart PD, and you're good to go.
