Has anyone tried running Share or Perfect Dark on Linux?
I wonder if it could be possible thru WINE?

Anyone has any thoughts please let me know.
Thanks

Share don't run under Wine... yet (it dies with a "Runtime error 0 at 0049B23D") => http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6699

Perfect Dark SHOULD run (i haven't tested it yet, but people have told me that it works), but you must provide a copy of msvcr71.dll (not an easy DLL to find), and make sure that you have japanase fonts installed on your system.

So: Share is a no-go, while Perfect Dark should feed your penguin :)

Looks nice! And the fonts are actually readable. Way to go for Wine!

Now, where is my Japanase books? I really want to start using PD, as a companion for Share, but the language is a major blocker for me.

looks better if you use ms ui gothic font for both sets

I got Perfect Dark running on my Fedora Core 6 box, but...

I CAN'T READ NOTHING! Editing mutagen/visual.txt seems to have no effect... Any suggestion?

INSTALLED FONTS IN YUOR WINE, NIGGA.

Already did that, poor troll!

I've installed the fonts, tried editing "visual.txt", but no luck :( On Windows, font change on visual.txt works fine (i've changed the ugly default to Arial Unicode MS), but on WINE, no matter what font i set on visual.txt (native Linux font, "installed" font on Wine...), it simply does not work! At least the dialogs appear OK, but not the main window and the message popups.

no dumb nigger, installed a fonts in yuor wine
done that then you can go in yoiur home directory and you will found and discovery of mutagen folder like directorys
there is a visual.txt inside it
this is only works if your a fuckin nouobs to unix

learn how to used some unix or GTFO

Huh? It seems that you can't read normal english... I'VE ALREADY INSTALLED THE FONTS ON WINE!!! (using MS Gothic and Arial Unicode MS => /home/myuser/.wine/windows/fonts). No luck there... Tried editing visual.txt after that yielded the same thing: english chars OK, japanase unreadable, PD doesn't even change the font size!!!

And no, i'm not a n00b, but not a *nix guru too. Maybe it's my 64-bit Fedora Core 6? I'm having some odd problems there, so it may be a Wine bug. Anyway, i will try with a fresh fake windows install (by moving my .wine somewhere)

NO MOTHERFUCKER, YOU CANT READ

>>done that then you can go in yoiur home directory and you will found and discovery of mutagen folder like directorys

TRY TYPED THE FOLLOWING YOU FUCKING FAGGOTTEER

gayniggertom# cd ~/mutagen
gayniggertom# ls
kashin.html kashin.js visual.txt

NOW FUCK YOURSELF

And since when PD reads the mutagen directory from the user home?

Anyway, i will try that :) And thanks for all the trolling!

Tried moving mutagen to home dir... did not worked. Maybe it works for you because you're running PD from your home dir (a bad idea, BTW).

However, I'VE FOUND THE FIX! It's related to the file encoding: visual.txt is UTF-16! I was editing it with nano/Wine's notepad, but they screwed the encoding and PD rejected the file (Share also does this crap, and that was the clue). I had to edit the file with gedit, force UTF-16, and i finally can see the dreaded japanase letters!

So for all Wine users out there: make sure that your text editor can write UTF-16 files, otherwise PD will reject your settings!

... and here is a screenshot of Perfect Dark 0.952 running under Wine 0.9.42 on Fedora Core 6 - 64-bit (on a Core 2 Duo laptop):

Look at the statusbar: there are still some unreadable japanase, but it seems to be a Wine font bug (message boxes are also unreadable using native Linux fonts, like DejaVu Sans). The fix would be set your Wine dialog font to MS PGothic (the only font that PD likes), but since Wine has no display control panel yet, it involves registry hacking.

If PD get native translation support, i will dump Share. It's the only thing that still tie me to Wintendo!

Where exactly in the .wine/system.reg file did you do the changes? Mind elaborating the process?

17 Name: Tom Maneiro : 2007-09-11 14:57 ID:UMND4OXg [Del]

I did not edited Wine registry, but the dialog font is somewhere in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/WindowMetrics. In Windows, these are binary values, and on Wine, i'm not sure if these are binary or strings (possibly binary too, so you're unable to edit them).

For now, the visual.txt edition should be enough for have an usable Perfect Dark.

hey wake up cuntrags. why the fuck are you running windows software on a SHIT OS? Just use windows, cockgobblers.

19 Name: Anonymous(bin+cue).zip : 2007-09-13 15:50 ID:ijssWOzj [Del]

I would, but it tries to anally rape me via the DVD drive on each boot.

So i'm stuck with this shitty OS that at least does not fuck with my anus. Plus, it still allows me to use Perfect Dark :)

hey tom, your shit is fucked and you should just rm -rf / immediately

In case anyone has troubles editing visual.txt in UTF-16 encoding using Kate/Kwrite, first start the editor, set the encoding to UTF-16 and THEN open the file, otherwise editor assumes it's binary data and won't let you edit even though it is displayed correctly.

And I would also like to know how to set dialog font.
