Downloads stop and the very end (6)

I have 5 or 6 files that downloaded quickly up until about 98% and then they just stop. I've been patient in waiting for them to complete, but I can't help think that there might be something wrong. Does anyone else have this problem and any idea how to fix it?

I have a few files in such condition (stuck in 98-99% since several months). Unfortunately, there is nothing that you can do, except by switching clusters, running Share 24-hour-non-stop, or waiting even more...

Thanks, for the response. Do you think it would make a difference if I delete the file(s) in limbo and add a new trigger to download it again? Have you or any one else tried this?

Does it make a difference in the nodes after I'm connected in terms of the download? For example, as long as I'm connected, then I shouldn't have to refresh the nodes right? If I understand correctly, I should only need to update the nodes if I disconnect from Share and then reconnect later. Is this right?

Well, as far as I know, readding won't help, becuase the file gets stuck when share cant find the last remaining part.

As for updating the nodes, I don't really understand what you mean, only thing you need to do with nodes is to add them at first start, and share will automatically fetch more (unless you are referring to some plugin, in that case i don't know).

Just for the record, did share found all parts?

This class of problems occur with old and/or rare files: the oldest, the most likely that they're start to vanish from the network.

Unfortunately, this is because of how the network works: old and/or unpopular stuff are deleted from user's cache if they need the space for fresh/popular media. This leads to permanently incomplete files, once the original sources dissapear.

Your options?

  • Leave Share running as long as you can. Ideal scenario is a 24-hour dedicated PC. Remember, sources appear and dissapear everytime.
  • Try to find another version of the file
  • As a last resort, switch to another network.

...and if nothing works:

  • Hope that someone reupload/reseed the file somewhere in the Internet, in this or another network.

I have DOZENS of files stalled at 90-99% since the last year, but i only run Share on weekends, so i may be missing sources. However, when i have the opportunity to run Share for long periods (i.e. for entire weeks), i have noticed lots of "orphan"/"ghost" files: stuff that will NEVER EVER finish to download because they have missing blocks that NO LONGER EXIST on the global cache.

It's a grim scenario, i know. Blame leechers, blame HD makers and prices, and blame the way of how the network works :(

Thank you for your reply. I was afraid of that. Oh well, I'll just leave it running and keep hoping............
